thought you might like an update on Brucie. He's completely settled in to his new home and is looking fantastic.
However, the little devil got himself into trouble yesterday, he fell through an inspection cover and had to be rescued by the fire brigade! He's absolutely fine, not injured at all, but certainly gave his owner a real fright.
There's also news on some others that needed rescuing. Roana is a beautiful brown roan girl that has had no human contact whatsoever, and is extremely timid. She'd been used for breeding, then dumped. Irma had also been dumped, but wasn't withdrawn or afraid. Pablo had been dumped by a hunter as surplus to requirements. 2 young male brothers were also dumped, but unfortunately, were so ill by the time they were handed over, they couldn't be saved.
Again people rallied and donated enough money to get them all treatment and documentation to get them over here, and yet again, there were numerous offers of new homes.
A lovely man named Nigel volunteered to drive to Italy to collect them and bring them here. He set out on Thursday, got stuck in Kent and then again at the Mont Blanc tunnel. He was due to reach Italy yesterday evening, and was planning to stay the night before heading back. He collected Roana and Irma, but unfortunately Pablo's paperwork wasn't ready, so another couple are collecting him next month. Nigel decided he'd start back so he didn't get stuck at the Mont Blanc tunnel again. He must've driven all night, because he's back. Both girls travelled well, but Roana is still scared stiff.
The lady who co-ordinated all this has been keeping us updated, and her husband has set off to meet Nigel to collect Roana, and start her on her journey to her final home. Her new owners are driving up from Cornwall to meet him for the handover.
Roana will be in her forever home later today, where her new owners will be able to give her all the time and love she hasn't had in the first 5 years of her life.
Dont think I wasn't seriously tempted Nellie, and in many ways, we'd have been ideal for her, quiet home, calm other dog, but I'm not sure the Princess would actually like a sister, she's quite indifferent to other dogs, so that, and a possible big move in a few years meant that I didn't think it would be a good idea.
Mr Nell's bosses took their four middle-aged rescue dogs to The States with them five years ago - it was a bit scary for all concerned at the time but they're happy in their new mountain home.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
