When it comes to jewellery, what is your favourite:
a) Gemstone b) Cut of stone c) Precious metal d) Style (ie contemporary, Victorian, ornate, showy, plain etc) e) Generally preferred Item of jewellery (ie rings, earrings, necklace etc) f) Designers (Tiffany, Honora, Theo Fennell, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hot Diamonds, Butler &Wilson etc) g) Most treasured and worn piece
I can answer my own list LOL
a) Pearls, peridots, amethysts, Russian diopside, lavendar tanzanite b) I prefer angular cuts like trillion, emerald and baguette c) Silver d) My tastes have changed and I now love contemporary, clean, chunky but unfussy settings but with statement stones e) Rings and earrings - I wear both every day f) I do usually like Honora's designs, the Boodles bubble designs are fab and I love bezel set stones. g) Two bezel set, multi stone rings - one in yellow bark-effect gold, reminiscent of an Andrew Grima piece, and one in a very heavy silver setting
What about your faves, ladies?
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.

A) pearls and diamonds B) any C) white gold or silver D)catholic in taste but partial to art nouveau E) earrings, bracelets, brooches F)open to all G)mother's platinum wedding and engagement rings
a) Gemstone I like pearls, opal, moonstone, lapis, turquoise -the opaque stones in general
b) Cut of stone angular cuts mostly. I am sick of the traditional oval. I like rings that have a stone lying east-west, or is square or oblong c) Precious metal white gold though I don't like the way it seems to go dull so if I had the money to make a choice it would be platinum, but stainless steel is good LOL I like rose gold, but sometimes it can be too pink. d) Style (ie contemporary, Victorian, ornate, showy, plain etc) I really don't mind. All I know is that as far as rings are concerned, I don't like stones that are encased in a lot of metal & sit up high on the finger. I've got one or two and I just don't wear them. They feel top heavy & they swing around
e) Generally preferred Item of jewellery (ie rings, earrings, necklace etc) Rings & brooches f) Designers (Tiffany, Honora, Theo Fennell, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hot Diamonds, Butler &Wilson etc) Again, I don't mind. I don't go looking for a name unless I'm buying as a gift & I know the person would like something from that range.
g) Most treasured and worn piece Difficult. My mother's wedding ring means a lot to me.
e) Generally preferred Item of jewellery (ie rings, earrings, necklace etc) ......... rings, bracelets.
f) Designers (Tiffany, Honora, Theo Fennell, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hot Diamonds, Butler &Wilson etc) ........ I'mnot bothered about designer brands at all, although I do have two Pandora bracelets, one of which is now full.
g) Most treasured and worn piece ......... my Pandora bracelet and my father's signet ring. Any jewellery I wear is on 24/7, so why I've got a full jewellery box of things I don't wear, goodness only knows.
The most valuable piece that I own is my grandmother's engagement ring. It's a 5 stone ring and is in yellow gold with clear red rubies (rather than the milky ones you get on QVC ) and diamonds. The stones are all round cut and the ring is stunning, but I daren't wear it because of the value.
a) Gemstone - favourites are very definitely morganite and smoky quartz, but I also like diamonds, labradorite, moonstone, amethyst and anything pink ... from pink sapphire, pink tourmaline and right through to pink angel calcite
b) Cut of stone - very fond of square stones, but prefer cushion cut to square cut. I also like octagon and emerald cuts and ovals ... particularly if set east/west.
c) Precious metal ... rose gold or white metals, but I do also like yellow gold. Old English gold is another favourite. Silver is my favourite white metal.
d) Style - I like simplicity but that's most likely to be classic or vintage rather than ultra-modern. I don't like rustic or twiddly settings.
e) Generally preferred Item of jewellery - flipping Min made me count the rings I had ... I have conveniently forgotten how many, but rings are a definite favourite. Followed by bracelets, but I wear rings, earrings and bracelets every day. I may or may not wear a necklace.
f) Designers - ah well now. Of course I love Tiffany and Boodles. I do have a Tiffany piece or two but I don't have anything from Boodles. Designers I love and own a few pieces by are:
Alex Monroe Simon Pure - a local, to me, designer Links of London Pandora Rodgers and Rodgers Ylang Ylang - another local, to me, designer Annie Haak
g) Most treasured and worn piece ... oh gosh this has been hard. My most treasured pieces are my two engagement rings. I have the stonking morganite, but I also have a slim rose gold diamond band. I never wear the two together but I don't always feel comfortable wearing the morganite. I wouldn't wear it to the beach or the pool or gardening for instance.
I also own my mother's engagement ring, my grandmother's "keeper" band, my great grandmother's brooch and a ring that was made from gold that my great, great uncle panned in the Idaho gold rush. Those pieces are very special. Gosh, I also own a stunning diamond double heart cape pin. That's beyond special. I have never had it valued because if I do, I would never wear it lol. I am so lucky to have so many wearable and beautiful antique family pieces. Being the family magpie has its advantages.
My most worn piece has to be a set of two silver beaded bracelets. I wear them most days. Think Bibi Bijoux balls but in silver. One has a pebble charm with a heart engraved on the pebble. The other is plain.
Its a darned sight more than I would ever have guessed. I can tell you that. I could give you a guesstimate but I have genuinely allowed myself to forget the actual number. And it has put me off buying a bit. But only a bit )
a) Precious stones - diamonds and indicolite. Semi-precious - pearls, moonstone, turquoise, spinel, amethyst, peridot. b) I too like angular cuts, emerald, princess, asscher etc. c) White gold, but only buy silver or stainless steel these days which I love. d) Classic or contemporary. e) Rings and earrings, I rarely wear a necklace or bracelet but love watches. f) Don’t really think about designer jewellery, just buy what I like and can afford. g) Most worn, a precision set diamond band ring. Most treasured an indicolite and also an asscher cut diamond ring. I always wear jewellery of some kind when I go out, even it’s just for shopping, and I’m rarely ever seen without a pair of earrings.
Gemstone : diamonds, Colombian emerald, AAAATanzy, hot pink and rainbow sapphires and smokey Quartz Cut : I love baguettes, princess cut, and I'd really like a radiant cut stone Metal : Platinum, w/g and silver Style : Modern simple channel or bezel set Preferred piece : rings Designer : Boodles, Cartier Most treasured and worn : Raindance Most treasured and unworn : My rainbow sapphires, and Tanzies
Sorry for being thick Frazz but I don't know what precision set means ) and I should like to know.
The speil when I bought it was, the stones are positioned precisely by machine and the gold mount pressed on to the stones holding them totally flat within the mount with no claws. The band is beautifully smooth and it just glides on and off my finger. There’s no fear of catching it on anything so it’s perfect for wearing all the time, I just love it.
I do like claw set pieces but you do have to have the claws given the once over every now and then. And if they're not perfect they do catch.
I like bezel set, but I call it bubble set. Cog's Boodles ring is utterly stunning! I like Swiss set too. To be fair there's very little I don't like lol.
I have a lovely Swiss set band set with tiny diamonds. Its a Tiffany piece. Half white gold, half yellow gold but I'm having the rhodium plate renewed and it made slightly bigger. I'm having a few pieces revamped and repaired at the minute. Making the most of what I have. )
Waiting to hear from DD - I assume she's not called Diamond Diva for nothing...........
Does Cariad like Clogau? What are Lil's special pieces? Is Y a white or yellow gold kinda gal? Does EB ring the changes with her piercings? I know Cass likes pearls cos I've seen them
If only Sacha and Snarly were here.
BTW, I'm not overly fond of my birthstone - ruby - but I do have a beautiful Edwardian, claret coloured garnet ring. Does anyone make a point of wearing their own birthstone?
My birthstone is moonstone. I've never owned any until a year or so ago. Its also pearl and I'm not find of oearls either. Although I've recently had two antique seed pearl and ruby rings repaired so I have with those a bit.
My friend, Annie, wears her birthstone ... peridot ... and it really suits her. I've bought her peridot in the past. She's about the only one I know who does.
