Yes well I was thinking that if I bought cookery books, the men here might expect me to cook more. That would be awful, I only do the bare minimum and that's too much.
I love cookery books. Delia is really good. Her recipe for ragu bolognese is well worthwhile effort.
Another big favourite here is Nigel Slater. I quite like a bit of Jamie Oliver too. His 30 minute meals are brilliant but he's a bit mad keen on citrus for me so I have to tone that down a bit.
I like Nigel Slater. He cooks like I do - make it up as you go along and chuck stuff in till it seems right! No precise measurements - except where necessary.
I have dozens of cookbooks but I read them rather than cook from them! Then, when I cook, I remember odd bits from various books and just go with the flow - it always seems to work.
I have thrown together a dessert too (don't know what's come over me today!). It's a variation on a recipe that I found the other day. And before you start looking for it, there is no coffee in it. It is named that as you eat it with coffee but it is lovely warm with ice cream for afters too. Coffee Cake
Oh my goodness - that was awesome!! I took the meat out after 5 hours and it just fell apart. The barbecue sauce had caramelised during cooking and was fab. To make it extra fab I added a dollop of Jack Daniels barbecue sauce! I served it with carrots and new potatoes, which I roasted with rosemary, as that was what I had on hand. Yummy!! And plenty for tomorrow.
Just letting it go down a bit and then it's dessert time!
I was looking for a relevant thread and found this one which is ideal.
Mrs M is cooking a huge joint of pork in the slow cooker, in a bbq sauce for tomorrow. I just wanted to comment on how great it smells, and will report back after the taste test. I gather it's being "pulled" and served in wraps, I know not with what as yet.
