I'm rather sad about this. Over the years I've bought lots of stuff from BHS - there was a time when they were the place to go for lighting, hats and winter sweaters.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
The problem with our 2 nearest ones, are their location. They're outside the shopping centres, so unless you make a point of going outside, they don't get much business.
It's a shame, because as Nellie says, at one time, they were really good shops, especially their lighting section.
Looks like the problem is being answered in our posts, we all seem to have gone there for specifics rather shop around the store. I use to go for the lighting section as well. Been many years since though.
I've happy memories of BHS or British Home Stores as it was know back then. My mother used to take us to town every Saturday & every now & then she'd take us into BHS and try on the hats -the awful ones- to make us laugh. Later as a teenager, I used to go there for [img src=""] presents as they always used to make the effort to get in some nice gifts. The layout was great, individual islands that you could walk around. A bit before my time, but it gives a general impression of the kind of layout I mean Attachment Deleted
When I married, most of our ceiling lights came from there.

I liked C&A as well. We had a big Co-Op Department Store in our town too. The travel department was legendary. What about Woolworths though? That was a youngster's dream.
Me too! My friend & I skipped off afternoon school to go to the first day of the sales. We saw ourselves that night on TV sailing up C&A's escalator LOL
