I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where members could post their life hacks or labour or money saving tips.
Here are some of mine
I always buy tomato puree in jars not tubes as they're a lot cheaper, once opened smooth the top of the puree flat and pour about 1/4" of cooking oil onto the top, this keeps the air out and stops it going mouldy
When you buy something in a sealed blister pack they can be a real pain to open so instead of trying to cut it with sissors I use a handheld tin opener around all the edges, it's much easier
I put the duvets cover, sheet and pillow cases of a matching set in one of the pillow cases before putting them in the airing cupboard, that way they're all safely stored together so no more hunting for them
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
Anthea Turner is a fan of life hacks and the other day on This Morning she had a couple of good one's but I haven't tried them yet
Dry your used fresh coffee grounds and put them in a dish and if you set light to them they'll smoulder and keep biting insects away. Must try this one!
If you're making a sponge that needs to be cut into layers to make sure its cut evenly stick the ends of cocktail sticks into the sponge halfway up the sides evenly spaced around the edge, then use a length of dental floss and pull it through the cake immediately above the cocktail sticks
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
When I bought my new car I'd only had it two days and driven 12 miles when I noticed that one of the fancy wheel trims had come off. I went back to the dealer he put a new one on and using two plastic cable ties on each of them secured all four to the wheels, I've had the car for six years and haven't lost one since!

To remove grease stains from clothes before putting them in the washing machine I dampen the area, squeeze neat washing up liquid on it, give it rub and when it comes out of the machine the stains gone
