Whilst at uni (Guildford, November 1978) we hosted the Be Stiff Tour. (I still have my 'If it ain't Stiff it ain't worth a f*ck' badge!! ) Anyhoo, along with Wreckless Eric, Lene Lovich et al there appeared one Jonah Lewie - some 18 months or so before him being in the kitchen at parties.
We had The Stranglers and UK Subs amongst many others - it was a great time to be at uni! (And on the subject of The Stranglers, I hate flippin' Golden Brown with a passion!)
Ooh, hang on.... a video. Also saw this lot - Midge, pre Ultravox!
Tears For Fears were great weren't they, but they weren't always that synthpop duo. Oh no, before they were TFF, they were Graduate, and were a five piece doing ska tunes. Clearly The Jam had cornered that market though, so they didn't last long.
I was just searching for Pictures of Matchstick Men because I remember that very clearly before they descended into the double denim hell that we all know and love and discovered their earliest incarnation quite by chance.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
Regular readers will by now know The Shamen were not always the cockney rapping idiots condoning the use of ecstacy tabs, they did of course start off as a psychedelic indie band before delving into acid house. Then Mr C came along and mucked it all up. Anyway, before they were the psychedelic indie band, they were another band altogether - I give you Alone Again Or - sounding like a cross between The Teardrop Explodes and Frankie Goes To Hollywood to these ears...
The KLF, also known as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, furthermore known as The Jamms....and of course they were behind The Timelords "classic" 'Doctorin' The Tardis'....but what before that?
Well Bill Drummond did an awful solo LP but that was concurrent with KLF work. Jimmy Cauty on the other hand had previous form. Brilliant.
I'm assuming the car featured is Jimmy's 1968 Ford Galaxie Coaster as featured in many KLF videos. It's by far the most interesting thing there.
I wonder if he's still shacked up with ex Thompson Twin, Allanah Currie....?
Nellie will like this one, pre T Rex, Marc Bolan featuring as writer and backing singer for John's Children, 1967. I know at one time certain 7" singles of theirs fetched quite a pretty penny in the record collecting circles.
Banned by the Beeb for "Lift up your skirt and fly..."
There was an interesting programme on the Beeb about him a couple of weeks ago, the 50th anniversary of his death. It was called Marc Bolan: Cosmic Dancer and worth watching on catch up.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
Being as there's been a bit of a Cult session in Wales, and Nellie and Frazz if not Liv have shown an interest, we are aware of The Cult before they were famous?
I give you The Southern Death Cult. (Note Billy Duffy's hairdo, Nellie.)
