I bought a paperweight this week. I know! Who buys a bloody paperweight these days. It's actually to go in my bathroom as I need something to weight down the back edge of the shower curtain when I'm in the shower and to look lovely when I'm not. I've been using a bottle of shampoo or shower cleaner lol.
So I bought a huge clear glass paperweight. One of those one full of bubbles. Appropriate for a bathroom I thought. Huge it is. £7.90. I've been looking in charity shops etc for a while now and never seen any I like.
I've got one on my desk. The Rugrats bought it for me years ago & it is beautiful. It will double up as a King David shot if I'm bothered too much. My eBay watchlist is overflowing at the moment & I doubt that I'll buy any of it.
We have a few but not a one is used for holding down paper - they are just there to look pretty!
When we lived in Lincoln we weren't too far from the Caithness Crystal place in King's Lynn (sadly now gone) and made a couple of trips there. Got some beautiful 'seconds' at great prices.
I bought myself a mille fiore paperweight at an antiques fair many years ago and people took that as an indication that I was a collector of paperweights.
I have the nicest ones on display but there are a couple of dozen stashed away in boxes.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
I've got a surfeit of lizards and iguanas. Some are on walls outside and inside and some are on shelves and a 3 foot carved wooden Komodo dragon is on the floor in the dining room. But I bought most of them myself so that's fine with me.
Fortunately people never seem to have had me down for a collector of anything other than plants and candles.
Actually now I've thought about I've actually got two other paperweights. Both bought by my ex MIL. One is a clear dome with a flower pattern underneath. The other has a green swirl in the glass. Have to say I prefer the clear ones.
I do like glass bits and bobs though. I particularly like glass jugs. No bugger every buys me any though lol.
I love glass ornaments and pottery ones come to that. A nice bit of crystal or coloured glass is always welcome. My favourites are a pair of tall Cranberry glass candleholders I bought from a ‘Collectors’ fair. Both decorative and functional.
I used to have a lovely paperweight on top of the TV (in the days when TV's were wide enough to put something on them). I really liked it until one day I came home and the sun had reflected through it and burnt a hole right through the top of it. I couldn't believe it. I was probably very lucky that it didn't start a fire to be honest.
Bloody heck Mr M. Best check none of mine are in direct sync light!! Mind you I'm devilled if I can the one with the green swirl. It may turn up but it may have gone walk about when the burglars moved things from room to room or it may have gone with them!
