Storm Ali claims its first victim as woman dies in Claddaghduff, County Galway, Ireland after caravan flies off cliff in 80mph gales that leaves 55,000 without power. Forecasters in Ireland have issued an orange wind warning, while in Britain there was an amber warning in place until 6pm.
The Met Office has named its second storm of the season - Storm Bronagh is on its way. A rain warning for Wales and North West England until 10pm tonight, and a wind warning for most of England and Wales from 6pm today until 9am tomorrow.
I'm hoping it rains a bit before the predicted gales, my new water butts are still empty after a fortnight. I think they could get blown over otherwise, which would not be good as they are attached to the down-pipes.
That's the way the neighbours get rid of their leaves. They leave them on the ground and wait until they blow down to me. The wind yesterday did a sterling job of clearing their leaves off their gardens. They're a generous lot here. I filled one wheelie bin bag yesterday with the leaves that arrived against the front door. I was going to take them to the tip this morning but, as we have gales and torrential rain forecast for tonight, I'm going to wait until tomorrow as I'll no doubt have another bag to fill up in the morning. Heaven help me when Autumn actually arrives.
It was bone dry here when I pulled the curtains, but it must have rained in the night because the water butts have water in, hooray! I think we must have been on the outskirts, I didn't hear the winds that were forecast.
Not looking good for my neighbours big party tomorrow though.

Horrible showers here. Mr FP has refused to go golfing but will deign to go up for the meal to end the season later on. This means he can bring in my M& S foodshop ( OK, I confess, demi- sec cava) into the house without me having to get the trolley out. Not a shopping trolley but a thingy like a box on wheels I used to move my school stuff about in. It lives in the hall so I can trundle heavy stuff about.
There were a few strong gusts of wind late yesterday evening but, if it rained, it was only drizzle as the ground was dry this morning. We were on an amber warning but obviously got away with it very lightly. Since I had the guttering cleared we haven't had any heavy rain. 😳
It's chilly this morning, but dry, and the washing's drying nicely outside. I took the wheelie bin bag of leaves, that accumulated at the front door yesterday, down to the tip this morning so the bin is now empty and ready for the next lot. It's the third bag I've filled this month so, as Autumn has barely started, I could be on to a record number of bags by the end of winter. Oh joy!

We had torrential driving rain last night accompanied by really strong wind, probably made worse as I live at the top of a hill. I didn't think I'd get any sleep last night but luckily it was coming from the south west and my bedroom faces north so it wasn't as bad as I expected and miraculously the wind and rain suddenly stopped just after 1.00am. I expected to see some disruption outside when I got up this morning, two of the garden chairs had been blown over as well as a really heavy concrete bird bath, thankfully it fell onto the lawn so didn't break and yet weirdly the plastic watering can was still outside the backdoor where I'd left it
