If you see any fresh stollen in the supermarkets can you let me know. Sains used to do their own but now it’s just the prepacked stuff. Might have to have a try at making my own.
The fresh one from Sains was much nicer than the pre packed ones on offer. Lighter in texture. I like the pre packed ones but would buy if I had a choice.
I love stollen. Don't think I have had a fresh one though, only ever prepackaged. It had the distinct advantage that nobody else in the house would touch the stuff so it was all mine!! I used to eat loads of it previously but haven't seen a GF one.
I made a sort of pear crumble this summer where you used pears cut in half and you put them cut side up. In the hole you’ve scooped the core out of you stuff a small ball of marzipan. Then roughly cover each pear with a pile of crumble mix. Bake until golden brown. It was flipping lovely.
A customer gave Sam one yesterday - a Stollen, that is. The only way to enjoy them IMO, is to toast slices and place slabs of salted butter on top in the way you would with a tea cake.
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
