I saw a picture of the new Poirot and thought he looked good. From the reviews I don’t think Poirot’s valet George is in it or Poirot’s sirop de cassis or his tisanes. If they titled it as whatever-her-name-is’s version of Hercule Poirot it would sit better with me and I might have a chance of enjoying it as that but it certainly isn’t Agatha Christie’s Poirot. What will the writer do to any books that have Poirot and Ariadne Oliver in them together? My head hurts...
Almost nothing about it was familiar and there were some major inaccuracies - the Royal Albert Hall is not in Paddington - but it's only a bit of frivolous telly.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.

I suppose it is like calling a diesel a steam train for me after being an Agatha Christie fan since I was 8. I know it was as early as that because my dad used to bring back murder books from the ICI library. There was a bookcase on the landing and I used to sneak them into my room to read.

We have recorded it to watch so in theory I could but it might provoke an argument if I start chunnering Yorko! Mr FP reads newspapers and books when he is on holiday but he is not a murder buff like me. The best TV adaptations I have seen were ‘The Flaxborough Chronicles’ of Colin Watson which was called ‘Murder Most English’ starting Anton Rodgers ,Christopher Timothy and Brenda Bruce. So funny!
You wont get an argument from me FP, its entirely a free choice as to what we like or dont like but I wouldn't denounce anything if I hadn't seen it in all honesty
I would like to think we discuss rather than argue on here

An argument is a discussion Yorko as taught in Primary Education. It is often used incorrectly as a lot of people associate it with people shouting at each other loudly whereas it means putting forward different points of view from diverse opinions backed up with evidence from the text. My main disagreement , which I have obviously not argued well, is that the ABC Murders as seen this Christmas should be owned by its writer as her work and not the work of Agatha Christie. I do realise I am being pedantic.People have written books in the style of other authors after they have died as in the Ian Fleming series or indeed Sophie Hannah has picked up the mantle of Hercule Poirot but they acknowledge it is their work and not the dead author. Jane Austen had other writers that finished off her bits and pieces and there is even a series of books where originals have been brought up to date by Alexander McCall Smith (Emma) , Val McDermid ( Northanger Abbey) and Sense and Sensibility ( Joanna Trollope).
Should add I am not trying to be condescending just putting forward my point of view and I apologise to all those who are waving two fingers at me right now.
Well I quite enjoyed it (but I thought the priest storyline was a bit too far fetched to be honest, that’s like saying Miss Marple was a brothel owner in her younger days), but it passed the time and I wasn’t watching the clock waiting for it to be over which is always a bonus 😂
Although saying that, I did watch the ‘other’ version yesterday which IMO was far superior.
