I tidy up and do housework as I go along so I don't have a load of mess, dirt or dust to deal with. I declutter every couple of months, although if a charity bag arrives I do an absolute blitz. I don't move furniture around as the design of my house would make life more difficult if I did. I keep on top of the garden as I go along, with the only mad period of cleaning up being in Autumn. (I wonder why )
I don't have anything on top of any cupboards, including in the kitchen, and my wardrobes are built in ones. My attic is empty so that doesn't need seeing to. I have net curtains so the windows don't need "Karchering" every five minutes and I don't deep clean carpets (although I do have a Vax carpet shampooer) because, when I had the new ones laid, the carpet guy advised me to spot clean with water and a microfibre cloth as shampoo would take the stain protection out of the carpet and it would get dirtier quickly. I also wear slippers in the house and guest take their shoes off (I don't ask them to though. They're just considerate 😉)
However, before I lived on my own, I would probably have followed the above timetable roughly as the ex and son hadn't heard of tidying up after themselves.
I realise I may be opening myself up to ridicule here but does anyone else think it's odd to clean your windows every week? We used to have a neighbour who did this and she changed the net curtains each time too - must have had about 5 or 6 different sets with various patterns.
The glass lamps are easy to wipe/wash down. I can be awful re the fabric lampshades. I had two inexpensive lamps recently where I just threw the lamp shades out and bought inexpensive new ones. The dust can only get so thick and it kind of rolls on the lamp shade when you try to wipe it off the fabric. :(
We vacuumed out one of the uplighter-type lampshades the other day. A month early I now realise but I hope I can be forgiven for that. It certainly had a goodly collection of dead moths, flies and dust. Probably the first time in 15 years, Interested Bob, but the light still got through. I think your decade idea is a bit fanciful, if I'm honest.
