I am really enjoying watching the Netball World Championships. I played WD for the school team. Really enjoyed going around the others schools of a Saturday morning. We played in East Lancashire. Blackburn one boundary , Loretto Manchester another. Also played for the school rounders team which I have read ,in spite of being strong here ,is in danger of disappearing. Both sports are very popular here with women with lots of local teams.
Thank you Yorko, the season starts in less than 3 weeks and the last thing we need is the football threads obscured by idle chit-chat about netball.
On topic, Mrs M says she hated netball at school, preferring hockey instead. I think it was the ability to maim the opponent more easily armed with a hockey stick that appealed.
I was in the school netball team, the hockey team and the cricket team 😳 The only sport I've done since school is badminton and I played mixed doubles in the local A team. Had to give that up sadly because of my knee. My current sport is getting out of bed. 😉
I remember shinty from primary school but the game we played called that was more like hockey?
I'm with itchy as far as netball goes - loathed it with a passion, lacrosse too. I always thought (and still do!) that it was daft all the faffing and spinning around as though one foot was glued to the floor! I played rounders for the house team and swam for the school. I shot for my 6th form school and shot and swam for uni. Much more fun!
I'd forgotten about rounders. I usually got the "role" of bowler, but that was when I was a teacher, rather than a pupil, and we played in a staff match every year.
I hated all sport at school and normally nipped off for a smoke
I think its that team stuff, all the training I do is just me, never had a training partner but used to have a massive body building spotter (for the heavy weights) when I trained more seriously than now
