I used to love the library, but I gave up going there a few years ago, and the reason was nothing to do with funding.
The library used to be a quiet place, completely devoted to books. Now, it's noisy, and full of people clicking away on the dozen or more computers that take up much of the floor space. Another large area is devoted to CDs and DVDs for hire.
The books are stuck out of the way, round the corner out of sight, and they seem to be organised by someone who has never learnt the alphabet, and possibly has no knowledge of the English language.
I now rely solely on the thousands of books I own, most of which I buy at charity shops, jumble sales and car boot sales. I have a massive library of all genres, a couple of thousand Kindle books, more CDs and DVDs than I could ever listen to or watch, and several computers, so as far as I'm concerned the local council can stuff their library where the sun doesn't shine.
Update: Today I added four more books to my library, having bought them at a jumble sale this morning.
They are -
The Best Of Biggles, by W.E. Johns. (Five stories) Cassell's Chronology Of World History (which weighs a ton) The Secret Life Of The Periodic Table. Shite's Unoriginal Miscellany, by A Parody. (yes, it is a bit weird...)
Are you a Biggles fan, Berry McPaper-cuts? I already have dozens of them, but where I find them in hardback form with several stories, I get them and get rid of the individual paperbacks. I do that with other writers books too, such as Agatha Christie's.

Yes, loved the TV programme too! At one stage I had all Agatha Christie’s books that were available at the time but sold them at the bookstall on Bury market when the children were born and needed to reduce number of books. I have had a few of the Sophie Hannah ‘New Hercule Poirot’ on Audio and they are not a patch on Christie. I am a huge murder book fan.
I haven't read any Agatha Christie books for well over a year, Berry McPaper-cuts, possibly two years or more, though I will get back to them at some point.
Last year or the year before, when I bought the final book in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, I did what I always used to do, and re-read the whole series, which by then was 41 books, so I got a bit tired of reading, and I still haven't done much reading since then...
