The unique gun culture in the USA, is something very few people outside of understand. The victims of crime and the right to bear arms are linked and means nothing will ever change unless both are challenged and tackled, but sadly that seems unlikely.
"Over 38,000 people die in the US each year from gunshot wounds" I would be very surprised if reports for the entire continent of Europe, including the UK comes anywhere near that figure.
More mass shootings in the United Kingdom than the US?
Exactly, FP.
I’d query that statement as well. It’s a little sweeping, in my opinion.
Our worst incident was Dunblane in 1996, when 16 died. That’s lower than some of the incidents in the States and incidents over there are far more frequent if the news is to be believed.
Didn't someone post an article on here that had a chart showing how many mass shootings there were in a year in the USA and only a tiny fraction of them had made the world news?
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong

What we have is a decline in ethics. A decline in the family structure. A decline in self reliance. A decline in teaching morality, right and wrong and no amount of banning something is going to keep people from hurting and murdering others while the innocent are left helpless. Now once we decide we really want to fix our culture and stop looking at the trojan horse then we can change society.
You are perfectly entitled to your views @whoisserafin, it's your country, your laws.
This country, and probably most of the world is seeing the same declines you mention. Whilst there are isolated incidents, fortunately there is no easy access to an array of deadly firearms from hand guns to military grade weapons.
I'm not sure there is any point in keep discussing the issue with an outside world who see the USA's gun policies as complete madness. I genuinely do not know a single person who feels any differently.

Well your racist misogynistic gun loving President has done a great job of sorting that lot out.
There are many people from the United States, like myself, who feel very frustrated that nothing is being done when children are shot in schools, when innocent people are shot shopping in a Walmart, at a movie theater, at a concert.
Almost anyone can buy a gun at a gun show here in the USA.
When they won't pass laws on owning certain assault arms it just doesn't make any sense to me. No one is trying to take away someone's 22 for hunting. When they don't pass laws for waiting periods to make background checks, that doesn't make any sense to me.
I know there are responsible gun owners here in the USA. Even a few small changes to protect innocent people would help.
But the NRA has big money and a lot of power that comes with that money. I don't see any changes in the near future.
I do think everyone has a right to their opinion. And I may disagree with what you say but many have died so you could say it.
I am so sorry for the losses you have gone through I wish you the best.
I think the difference in the mass killings in Europe opposed to those in the US is that the one's over here are mostly terrorist events, carried out by well organised cells which have little to do with the residents. If the news reports are to be believed most of those in the US appear to be citizens with grudges or mental health issues who shouldn't be allowed to have access to firearms let alone automatic one's. That said even if they were denied gun licenses they would probably turn to other weapons such as home made explosives, knives firesetting etc but surely better vetting on who gets a licence is a sensible way to go?

It’s not isolated instances Europe has mass shootings, the world’s most stabbings, now vehicles are being used as weapons more than ever but again none of these are real issues.

And I hope they never do pass laws on those hyped up news issues that make for good news but would do nothing to save lives or actually solve our real social issues everyone wants to pretend isn’t happening
That poster/leaflet states...... “America DOES NOT have a gun problem.”
In my opinion, most people who don’t live in America, and so consequently don’t feel the need to have a gun in their house, would beg to differ. And I do agree with what Mr. M. said - that without easy access to guns, or knives, there would be no victims.
And a lot of countries have experienced terrorism by fanatics and sadly that also includes the U.S.A. (the dreadful attack on 9/11) Tragically, it’s a worldwide problem.
As patriots we are all going to defend our country but should ensure that we all respect others’ point of view, but I do think that a country’s leader/s have to take some culpability for not bringing in laws that protect the people adequately.
And once again, I hope you are able to soon recover from the traumas that you have been through.
