Lijahs, (possibly a shortened form of Elijahs) - leg straps once worn below the knees by farm labourers in Suffolk, presumably to stop rats running up their trousers.
It's tragic that such a descriptive and useful word has fallen out of use...
Social media users scrambled to find out the definition of their 'new favourite word' after the term 'pettifogging' was used during the opening day of Trump's impeachment trial. It means to focus unnecessarily on petty details, especially when employing underhanded legal methods. So now you know!
It was used a lot around here years ago, but I don't recall hearing it recently, and I think I've stopped using it myself, though it might still be used in some places.
It means to continually cry, whinge, or moan about something.
Examples:-
"That babe has been grizzling all day, he's probably cutting a tooth".
"He's forever grizzling about not having any money, but he won't get off his arse and get a job".

I think that is the equivalent of a whiner here.
"to snivel or complain in a peevish, self-pitying way"
The implication, when used here, is that it really is tiresome for others to always have to hear the complaints.
