Everyone is entitled to an opinion and to voice that opinion. I do not hold with this cancel culture that has evolved in recent years, BUT if you work for a group that is supposed to be impartial (*chuckle*) you should stick to the rules & not think yourself above such restrictions. Girly-ear Ken, his high-status opinions and his contempt for the rules wins the day.
The virtue-signalling, the anti-populist hysteria, the seeing Nazis everywhere – it runs through the corporation like the words in a stick of rock.
Common sense prevails? 😳 Not in my world it doesn’t.
Of course the BBC means a lot to Gary because it pays him £1.4 million a year to waffle on once a week. He clearly thinks he is above the rest of us and unfortunately the BBC agree.
It was interesting to hear a discussion on the radio over the weekend, and this morning, where a lot of viewers apparently turn the volume down in Match of the Day because they don’t like him droning on so they didn’t miss him on Saturday.
As a licence payer, I agree with Nellie. The BBC should now be privatised and anyone who can read an auto cue and waffle could apply to do Gary’s job. “Simples.” 😉
You mean the Tory faithful? Don't lump me with that generalisation.
He spoke out against the Braverman witch who wanted to ban all boats landing here. Now granted some contain people who have sold their own wives (so to speak) for a ticket, but a lot are fleeing persecution from war and tyranny. And so to ban them without question is bang out of order, but typical of this government's stance. Lineker's mistake was to compare the action with Nazi Germany in the 30's, which is probably untrue and certainly against the BBC's so-called impartiality rules. BUT the reason the BBC backed down is because the Director General is shit scared of losing his cushy position following the Boris Johnson scandal of the £800m loan assistance. He should now stand down but you can pretty well bet he won't.
Obviously you will all tell me I'm talking nonsense because as we've seen from this charade, free speech is only tolerated when it's being agreed with.
I do agree that it's time the BBC was laid to rest and the license fee scrapped. It's been suggested already by the govt but will not happen till at least 2028. Or until some dubious deal is done.
When I wrote “He clearly thinks he is above the rest of us” I was referring to Gary Lineker, not to you or the Tory party. I’m not a Tory by the way.
Whatever your thoughts on it all, he has offended a lot of people and, in my opinion, should offer some kind of apology but I doubt he will. The DG should also step down but he won’t.
In view of the likelihood of a legal battle over contracts, and DG's acknowledgement that the current social media guidance contains grey areas, there wasn't really any option for the Beeb other than to backdown. Just a pity they didn't do a bit of thorough background checking of the guidance before jumping. A lot of silly nonsense from all involved at the end of the day.

Free speech often offends people if they disagree with what's been said, but as I said before I don't think he should have used those words.
As Nellie correctly stated, “us” refers to the licence payers and anyone else who was offended by his comments. Free speech is important but he should have chosen his words far more carefully.
There is now talk about the licence fee going up to £175 a year. Maybe Mr. Lineker demanded a wage rise. 😉 The sooner the BBC is privatised, or introduces adverts, the better because it’s no longer worth the licence fee cost in my opinion.
