I took one because it was new to me. I thought I could top up with a second one later if the first dose did not ease my symptoms. If you are sensitive to aspirin Toril don't touch it.

The over the counter cocodamol ones don’t help me at all, only the ones the doctor prescribes which I could take two of three times a day but if I need emergency relief I just take one in the middle of the day and that makes me sleepy. I usually manage on one ibuprofen first thing. I’m glad you are in less pain now Liv. I presume I must have a very vivid imagination as some doctors say pain is all in the mind however I would prefer to do a bodyswap with one of them on one of those days when it is intense so they will stop making such statements.
All anti-inflammatory meds ie aspirin, codeine, paracetamol, ibuprofen, can be very hard on the stomach.
Aspirin can cause stomach or intestinal bleeding in some people. According to my GP if you are aspirin intolerant it's a warning that other meds are not always OK.

Liv, I’m not sensitive to aspirin thankfully but have never considered taking co-codamol. On the very rare occasion that I need a painkiller I take paracetamol or anadin extra. The only time that I’ve taken ibuprofen was for a week after my knee replacement operation.
On the aspirin topic, my elderly neighbour was taken into hospital a couple of years ago with intestinal bleeding. It was down to taking daily aspirin. She had misunderstood what the doctor had said and had kept taking one tablet a day, for a long time, thinking it would help her type 2 diabetes. Thankfully, aspirin is now off her “medical diet.” However, her doctor was prescribing it the whole time without asking her in for a review or challenging her request.

Doctors usually prescribe another drug, the name of which escapes me ( ome something? ) if a patient is regularly taking one of those drugs that can cause that.
Some meds are 'film coated' or described as 'gastro-resistant' to make them gentler on the stomach. Naproxen for example has quite a frightening warning - "... may cause ulcers, bleeding, or holes in the esophagus (tube between the mouth and stomach), stomach, or intestine." I has the gastro-resistant version.
European and UK medical regulators are 'reviewing available evidence' to see if the rules on selling pseudoephedrine need to change, it emerged today. Health chiefs are spooked by reports of patients being struck down with two rare conditions. Both can cause strokes. Other decongestants, such as Benylin, Benadryl, Nurofen, Day & Night Nurse and Claritin, would also be affected if any U-turn was necessary. Dozens of own-brand remedies - including ones at Boots, Lloyds and Superdrug - also contain the chemical. www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11780431/Sudafed-BANNED-prescription-Urgent-probe-rare-deadly-effect.html
