The Cure opened their Glasto set with 'Plainsong', which is exactly what I wanted them to do.
Followed by 'Pictures Of You' but then all hope of watching it all were lost as herself started rambling on about carpets. I shall listen in peace on iPlayer another day.
I'm soon to write up the last year of my "40 Years Of The Fall" blog-within-a-forum thing on our spoof forum. It's been nine months since I started it. It's come to light that one particularly weird (though not unlistenable) Fall song from 2017 used a most similar chord change to an old Gary Numan song. See if you can spot it, we'll do Numan first.
I can't post on the site where the Numan revelation came to light (long story, we misbehaved... ), but I can add the Basement Jaxx idea to my review. I'll credit you obvs.
Oh my goodness, Berry McPaper-cuts . I looked up the song and Solomon Linda's story. He died in poverty of Kidney disease.
Not the first time a black artist didn't get credit or compensation for their original work.
At least there is this:
"In 1999 the three surviving daughters of Solomon Linda eventually sued for royalty rights to The Lion Sleeps Tonight. They won a settlement in the case six years later. As part of the settlement with Abilene Music, which owns the publishing rights, Linda's heirs receive 25% of past and future royalties from the song, which is considerable since it is used in so many movies and still receives airplay."

Yes, there was an article about it in the British paper The Daily Telegraph. I was pleased to see his daughters have got some money now. The sound of the Evening Birds reminds me of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
