I heard this earlier today - for the first time - and found it so weird that I sought it out to listen to again. Kate Bush/Elton John/ukulele/reggae/Irish fiddle sounding bagpipe thingy/sitar - it's all in there..........
It's a great rendition Nellie, although I do find it a bit odd when a woman covers a song written from a bloke's perspective, so "I miss the Earth, I miss my wife...". It's not unlike Brix Smith's cover of Space Oddity, "Tell my wife I love her very much..." etc.
I'm sure there's one the other way round, with the bloke singing from a woman's perspective, but I can't think of it now.
Oh I appreciate that, but it still sounds odd coming from Kate Bush or Brix Smith who you know are straight. If say k d lang sang those songs, it might sound more realistic. It's like when Andy Bell sings "Gimme Gimme Gimme a man after midnight...", it's sounds quite believable.
Meanwhile, yesterday at the Park 'n' Ride site, I was chatting with one of the caretakers there. We got onto music and it turned out he was a big fan of Dep Mode, Sisters Of Mercy, Siouxsie and PIL. Good man then. Of Dep Mode, he lent me their last CD 'Spirit' from 2 years ago. I'd heard the lead single which was woeful, but little of the rest. Well it ain't bad - better than the previous two albums, but very very dark and politically themed, ie. they're not happy. I'd say 50/50 classic Mode/neurotic whining.
