I've been shopping at Waitrose a bit more often the last few months, mainly because it's been easy to get to via bus so I was able to buy the duck eggs Tesco can't deliver!
I started trying some of their Basics range and found them very good, there's usually a few good offers and today I bought their own brand cat treats, chicken and cheese pockets. The cats love them, 65g for 90p making them much better value than Dreamies and Temptations. You need to shop carefully, but I'm not spending anymore than I would elsewhere, and even if I did spend an extra couple of quid it would be worth it as it's much nicer to walk round being quieter. I shall still do a monthly shop from one of the big four, but I will probably use Waitrose a couple of time in between.
There was a time when we bought everything under one supermarket roof, but not anymore. I buy 'must haves' from Lidl - coffee, teabags, cleaning stuff etc - and cat food from Pets At Home, their own brand which is the current favourite of Fattyboots. I had to go there as she's pretty much exhausted all the regular ones found on supermarket shelves. We use our local Tesco Express a fair bit now that 24 & partner are living here with us for the time being.
That's very true, I tend to visit the one that happens to be wherever I am at the time. There are specific things I like from most of them, Tesco is top of the list when I need petrol.
I've come to love the Waitrose near me. At first, I thought it was trying too hard to be more of a John Lewis store than a Waitrose but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.
Lots of special offers to be found, a Post Office that is open 8am-8pm 6 days a week AND during the shop's opening hours on a Sunday, a huge and well designed car park, shelves restocked constantly and no-one but me there at 8pm at night............bliss!
I still wouldn't buy my cleaning products there though.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
I flit between Waitrose, Tesco Express, Sainsbury Local, Asda, Lidl and my local supermarket as all are within a short distance of where I live. I don't do a main shop in any of them ........... I just 'top up' and where I go depends on what I've run out of.

I like to look at them all but it does require a bit of a drive. No Waitrose though and the nearest Sainsburys is a long way. I do enjoy a weekly walk round M&S.
We did have one for years just up the road but it is now M&S Foods, I suppose there isn't much difference really, top quality but not for you if you have to budget.
We have never had a Waitrose near enough - our nearest at the moment is almost 20 miles away. I don't think I have been in one more than a couple of times and that was years ago near where my sister lived. It seemed incredibly expensive compared to what I was used to at the time.
I think you'd be pleasantly surprised now EB. Presumably, because competition is so fierce, they've had to up their game and they price match with Tesco in-store and online for many ranges.
I agree with Mim that, given the time and opportunity, most people would flit between various stores for bargains and favourite items.

I only popped in very occasional until recently for the odd treat, but they are certainly much more competitive now. They still have their luxury ranges, but I only look at those for special occasions.
We're lucky that we have lots of supermarkets near us, and when we first moved here, we shopped at Tesco because we didn't know there was a huge Sainsbury near by, which we used until recently. After everyone started raving about Aldi and Lidl, we started shopping there, and I can honestly say, that I think the fresh produce lasts longer and is better quality than either of the other major supermarkets we used to use.
There's a huge Waitrose being built just down the road from us, but I doubt we'll bother to go.
