I'm not anti-American, but I don't like Americanisms creeping in to our language, I particularly dislike people saying "I'll take" instead of "I'd like" .
Possibly for emphasis? I was taught that conversational grammar is quite different to written - where brevity is best - and therefore words are used for effect rather than essential meaning.
Never mind new words/text speak lingo to include in our vocabulary ......... I wish that people realise it's "I should have done it," rather than "I should of done it."
When I hear people on the television saying it, I correct them (although they can't hear me. ) It must be 'the teacher' in me.
