I bought a candle today for me in TK Max. It's called '5 o'clock shadow' by Manly Indulgence. 24 says it's masculine & it is that, but I realise it's not conventionally feminine.
Jo Malone candles are amazing. If you want something that isn't overly girlie then try Blackberry and Bay. If you want something spicy, Pomegranate Noir.
ESPA only do one candle I think but that lovely too. Very fresh and spa-like. The White Company candles are good too.
But there's nowt wrong with Yankee. Although for a guff is probably go for the pillar candles for a young'un rather than the jars
I called into Jo Malone's shop in Cardiff yesterday. Lovely! I've got so many sprays on those bits of paper they put out for you to sample the fragrances & yes, I did write the names on the papers. Didn't buy a candle though. There's Yankee in a Garden Centre near me so I might go & sniff out your suggestion Cog.
Just sampling the fragrances, I liked the fruity ones the best Tinks, especially Pomegranate Noir though there's a new cologne 'Incense & Cedrat' according to their website that I intended to seek out & forgot in all the excitement. Not that I could afford the cologne mind www.jomalone.co.uk/product/3553/35323/Fragrances/Cologne-Intense/Incense-Cedrat-Cologne#
Red Roses reminded me of Turkish Delight & I couldn't get past that at the time, but now on the sample paper it's nicer than it was fresh in the shop.
The linen sprays were lovely & I nearly bought one but dithered & 30 got bored.
I adore Red Roses but you're right, it is very sweet when you first spritz and then changes to something fresher and greener as it goes on. I like the sweetness but its the overall that I adore. I think it smells like roses after the rain. And although its called red roses, to me it smells more like the pink roses in my garden.
Pom Noir is lovely. Nellie and Snarly would agree.
Crikey O'Reilly yes. The Cologne Intense or whatever its called has a hefty price tag.
Mr Tink likes Amber & Lavender which is the one fragrance they describe as masculine. I think he likes it because he's sniffed it so many times whilst being hauled around the shop by me its like a comfort blanket lol
I went off Yankee candles because they seemed to have a petroleum type scent and the jars sometimes got soot round them. I can recommend the Milkhouse creamery range. They're soy and beeswax and don't soot like some of my Yankee ones did and the scent fills the whole house without being 'clawing.' I've had the vanilla ones and the coffee and similar scented ones. The vanilla is lovely.
QVC used to do them and when they started to stop the range I bought loads of the vanilla ones at under half price so I'm stocked up for ages now. Milkhouse Creamery do have a website though. I've also saved the jars once the candle has finished as they're less boring than a normal jar.
