Got up early this morning to feed the cats, opened the cat flap and went back to bed to watch the news. Later I was pottering about and there on the carpet in the dining room was a large dead rat!!
I think it has to have been Millie, fortunately it appeared “undamaged” so there was no mess. I’m not scared of them but it did freak me a bit, first time I’ve seen a rat around here in 21 years. I’m extremely grateful it was dead, I don’t think my Pringles tube would have been up to the task. I think it’s going to have be back to the cat flap working one-way only, which worries me a bit for Boots.
I didn’t think you’d appreciate a photo, but if you would like one?

Good grief! Yes, it has to be Millie. You definitely need to think about getting the council to have a look at the dead one and whether someone near you is 'hosting' them. I think it is unlikely with Millie in the house that they are living on your property. Next door had a dead rat in the back garden earlier on this year when we were put onto the 3 weekly bin collection. The pest control officer could not guarantee that the bait put down would not kill Boris and Katya and as our neighbours are rather fond of the cats they opted not to have the poison.
Hopefully it was a one-off. If I see another one I will report it, but I definitely don't want poison being put down.
There are restaurants and take-aways not too far away, but as I said I have never seen one before. There has been a lot of barbeques and garden parties recently with the hot weather, I wondered if that may be an issue. Hopefully, the resident foxes will make sure they earn their keep!
Yuck Frazz horrible things. I haven't seen a live one for donkey's years, my neighbour in my last house saw one on his patio and about the same time my cat killed a couple of baby one's which she left on the patio but the pest control people soon dispatched them
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong

All this rodent talk made me smile and think of our old mate who is fine by the way. Nellie , I have your favourite creature sharing the bedroom ceiling with me at the moment. It likes to travel across from one side of the room to the other but only when I am not looking.
