My question for Yakkers is - do you like cocktails, have you ever made one and if so, which is your favourite?
I do love a Marguerita or White Lady. Daiquiris are nice as well, especially melon, made with Midori. I like making my own as well, my favourite for the summer is ripe strawberries, vodka and raspberry Sourz. I bought some apple Sourz which I haven't tried yet, I think it might work well with melon and vodka or Barcardi . . . I feel a taste testing coming on lol!
Definitely best drunk with friends but I did spend a lovely Christmas Day on my own with Luigi a few years ago . . . Gin, dry vermouth, Cointreau, grenadine syrup and orange juice. ... Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
You can't beat a good Bloody Mary. Plenty of crushed ice, celery salt round the rim of the glass, Worcestershire sauce - NO tabasco - a dash of black pepper, a squeeze of lime, one measure of vodka, topped up with freshly de-seeded tomato juice and stirred with a fresh celery stalk.
S-c-r-u-m-m-y.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
I'm partial to the odd cocktail (or 2,3,4,5.....)! The best Bloody Mary I had was in the Vodka Bar of the Langham Hilton in London. It was made with pepper vodka and it was wonderful. I had a few that night! I'm quite happy with normal vodka though and will often make one of those at home!
I like Brandy Alexander, Manhattan, Daiquiris, traffic lights, Tequila Sunrise, all the silly names .......... basically anything that doesn't contain gin - the stuff makes me puke!
When I was at uni my favourite drink wasn't technically a cocktail as it was drunk by the half pint but it was a Red Witch - Pernod, Blackcurrant and Cider. Apparently I had several for my 21st - don't ask me I can't remember! I also used to drink cider with green ginger and cider with Southern Comfort. Only way I can tolerate Southern Comfort - normally the smell is enough to stop me in my tracks!
The Luigi was invented by Luigi Naintre in the early 1900’s. Luigi was the owner of the Embassy Club in London and a well known restauranteur at the time. According to Robert Vermeire, author of Cocktails and How to Mix Them, this cocktail was one of the most popular drinks in London when it was first created. Really, who doesn’t like a pink drink, especially when it’s full of gin? (Definitely not one for EB!)
I like a Bloody Mary as well. The trouble I find is they don't taste particularly alcoholic, so it's easy to drink rather too many lol!
