Hmm, the roasties look half cooked as do the pigs in blankets and only two minutes for the sprouts? I hate crunchy sprouts so that's a no go. My Turkey usually looks better than that too!
I know they say we 'eat with our eyes' but using food colouring, marmite and gawd knows what else to make it look 'good' seems so wrong - at least for the table. Different if you are doing a magazine spread or photo, although even then it doesn't seem quite right!
I find my favourite Aunt, Bessie, a godsend at Christmas, she's so helpful, and her roasties, parsnips and Yorkies are perfect everytime. She's so kind, she pops round and does them for me :P

I do my own roasties but freeze a backup M&S for emergencies. I parboil for 10 minutes, drain and toss in flour and leave to cool. Then roast in olive oil. I have to usually cook loads of roasties for the menfolk but will need to remember to cut down this year as 1 will be absent. Had my first Christmas Lunch today and it tasted mighty fine.

Are we related Cog? I have an Aunt Bessie who comes round to my house at Christmas too! Actually, she's round my house every time we have roasties or yorkshires!
I used to make my own but OH is very picky when it comes to those items and mine didn't match his expectations - apparently, mine were the wrong shape!! Fussy bugger. I was upset at first but now I am rather pleased he prefers frozen ones.
If you are roasting spuds and parsnips, and you're not veggie, then do try goose or duck fat. They taste fab and you can get the fat smoking hot so they go super crispy.
After Christmas we will be giving it away at Tinker Towers. Goose fat that is. Off the average bird you get somewhere around two or even two and a half pints of the stuff. More than I can use in a year for roasties.
Just as well I bought mine early. Bubbling away nicely they are
Gawd by they do talk some rot. My sprouts are fine! I'm sure someone makes these stories up to sell sprouts or whatever crop has apparently been ruined.
