When I took my class to Kentwell Hall in Suffolk, because we were studying the Tudors, all the staff employed there were dressed in Tudor costumes. We were greeted at the main gate by a very pleasant looking young man and I had to reply to his Tudor greeting with a Tudor response. I could barely manage my reply because by then I'd realised that he was sporting the most amazing codpiece and, however hard, I tried I found my eyes wandering.
I was just glad that, when he asked the children if they had any questions, they were more mature than I was and asked relevant questions rather than "What the heck is that?" The staff I'd taken with me were another matter though. It was the first thing that they mentioned when we got back to school.
I once went to Kentwell Hall for Carols, Mulled Wine and Mince pies - not a codpiece in sight although there were plenty of baubles on the Christmas tree
