This is a new one. Just had a recorded phonecall from allegedly 'The Inland Revenue' which started , "This phonecall is for you...) - obviously no specific name. Recorded voice then started to tell me that there was a very serious lawsuit against me at which point I told recorded voice to **** *** and put the phone down. If you were less scam aware this one could really frighten you.
Found this: HMRC LogoHMRC has asked us to alert our users to a scam which targets taxpayers and seems to be aimed at the elderly in particular. We have been asked to share the following information:
There is currently a telephone scam where a recorded message is left, allegedly from HMRC, stating that HMRC are bringing a lawsuit against the individual and is going to sue them. The recipient is asked to phone 0161 8508494 and press “1” to speak to the officer dealing with the case. This scam is becoming widely reported and seems to be targeting older people. Please do not reply to the message.
HMRC takes security very seriously but you need to be alert. If you cannot verify the identity of the person making the call you should not disclose your personal details. You should report these incidents on the Action Fraud website, or you can call them on 0300 123 2040 (Please note this number will be charged at your normal network rate). They are open Monday to Friday 09:00 - 18:00.
The really annoying thing about recorded messages is where it tells you to press whatever to speak to someone! Cheeky beggars expecting you to pay to shout abuse at them!
The scammers/solicitors are retaliating me thinks because it went from me and peeps who followed suit harassing them back with humorous smack and phone backs to now they will not stop phoning you if you pick up the phone and answer their calls and they don't use just one number they have well I have no idea probably hundreds of different numbers.
All the calls are from two people which are apparently from India and/or Pakistan (male and female) she plays the dumbass and he plays the mouthy s.o.b. so I turned the tables on them.
They talk to my machine now (my answering machine, I have a landline no cell phone for this girl) I thought of recording my own message but, then thought they would consider that me being home and a smartass so I left it digital so now I screen their called through not only my answering machine but, call display as well.
If I don't recognize the call I jot down the number, especially if they don't leave a massage and they never do. I look up the number online only to learn they are also harassing people on their cell phones and landline.
They get three tries then I block them. Eventually, they run out of numbers to call me with. lol
We both got letters from these idiots this morning. What annoys me is we do not know the name of the company that used this shower to check up on our finances! Neither of us has ever used one of these credit ratings firms or in the time frame given in the letter applied for credit so it is a mystery. Not happy.
I've had that one several times in the past month, Frazz, and always delete them. Those scammers must think we're stupid ...... although sadly some are gullible and will click on the link.
I've also had two emails telling me that I've been left $1 000 000 dollars by some prune. No link and total fabrication (I hope )
