I had not bought real butter for years. I got fed up with not being able to spread it on bread without making a hole in the bread. We have had Golden Olive spread which was more convenient.
A few weeks ago 26 (and his girlfriend) bought a pack of butter for here as she only likes that. It reminded me and OH that we love butter and things taste so much better so now I am buying it too. I completely ignore advice that the spreads are better for you and just have a bit of what we fancy.
I only buy it for visitors and cooking certain things.
I can't trust myself with it because the solution to holes in bread is to cut two very thick slices off a warm, fresh, crusty loaf and sandwich them together with dollops of butter.
They say butter is better for you now Itchy. I would use it all the time, but like Nellie, I be trusted with it. It always goes on toast a lot thicker than spread, so I stick to Clover most of the time.
Yes, another thing that the medical experts have changed their opinion on. Like eggs. I like them too. Poached eggs are one of the very few things I cook well!
I've very recently bought some non salted butter and have been using it for cooking. Otherwise we use M&S sunflower spread lite or Pure. The grandkids were a bit dairy averse when younger and so we got used to buying non dairy spread. They're both fine now.
I'm a bit fussy with oils also and tend to stick to extra virgin Olive Oil......not literally! Lol

I use extra virgin olive oil in cooking too. Strangely lard has been re-instated as a fat you can use again. We used to make pastry with Kilverts lard.
I was brought up on a dairy farm. I have never given up butter although I can just about live with skimmed milk these days. That said we don't eat a lot of butter.
Ooo Itchy one of my absolute favourite tippy top meals of all time is poached eggs on buttered white toast. If the eggs are poached to perfection I love it.
