Thanks everyone for all the thoughts and good wishes. We gave Dad a jolly good send off. It really was a lovely service with a good turn out of friends old and new. Upsetting, of course, but at the same time a chance to relive some happy memories. The spread the hotel put on was very good (a good gluten free selection too!) with some lovely sandwiches, cakes and scones, plenty of tea and coffee, and a few bottles of a very nice red wine. Dad would have loved it all.
Back at my sister's I picked up some of Dad's things that were personal to me (photos of me as a baby etc!) and some things that were very 'dad' as a reminder of him. Both the boys have something of his to remember their grandad by. We all spent some more time reminiscing too, as you do!
All in all, a good day as these things go and a fitting way to say goodbye.
