I’ve just had a coffee to set me up before I go to the chemist for my prescription. No doubt we’ll be queuing outside so I’m glad it’s lovely weather today.
Nellie, Nope. I’m tee total. I used to have the occasional snowball at Christmas and a small glass of wine if we went out for a meal, but I don’t like the taste of alcohol so decided it was a waste of time to bother with it just to be sociable.
The last alcoholic drink I had was in May 1985, when I tried a bit of Bailey’s. And I’ve never been tiddly or had a hangover.
It’s personal choice, but I don’t understand why people drink to excess and then feel like rubbish the next day. At least my liver is in tip top condition. 👍
Don't count on it. My brother-in-law, a former Rugby player & PE teacher didn't drink other than a half shandy occasionally at Christmas and not every Christmas at that. He died aged 62 of liver failure. I don't drink simply because it doesn't agree with me anymore. Sometimes I really fancy a G&T
I drink alcohol if I fancy it, sometimes I do, sometimes i don't. I ran bars for 40 years. I could have gone 3 ways, alcoholic, teetotal, or choosy. and I chose the latter. I like Brandy without mixers, Ouzo, and Gin. I drink very little wine as it makes me sleepy and I don't care for most white wines.
There are many reasons for liver failure and alcohol only plays a psrt in some cases. There is a certain gut bacteria which in some people converts to alcohol in the gut. My mother's sister died of cirrhosis of the liver aged 23, she had never had alcohol in her life.
Well, I disagree because I could taste it and if there is supposedly no taste, then why bother? You can also smell it on someone’s breath. That was quite useful when a bloke rolled back down a hill into the ex’ car and then got out and blamed us when we’d been stationary. When he got back in his car, I told the ex he’d been drinking. He had given us his address but when we went round he was very abusive so we went to the police station, reported the accident and gave them his details. As I left I said, “oh, by the way, he’d been drinking.“ They went round to see him. 😀
As I don’t drink, maybe that’s why I can detect when someone else has been. It’s a bit like smoking. I never noticed the revolting smell that cigarettes make until I gave it @lewis,up. I can now “sniff out” a smoker very easily.
Why can I tell the difference between gin, sherry, wine etc then? And I have tried all of those in the past. Or are they not classed as pure/plain alcohol? The only pure alcohol I have is for sterilising things and I wouldn’t drink that.
As you can tell, I have no interest in alcohol per se which is no doubt why my posts are getting replies.
And when I mentioned my liver being in tip top condition I should have said, that I had a liver function test a couple of years ago and everything was, thankfully, fine. But I know that liver problems aren’t solely to do with drinking.
