Crikey I forgot splits!! They're a slightly sweetened plain white bread roll that you would eat with jam or marmelade.
And pickled herrings. You cook them in a bay leaf, blank pepper and vinegar marinade. God I haven't had those for years. Baby mackerel would do the job.
Yuk - the pickled herring sound like rollmops! A Kosher abomination that looks like snake in a jar.
Ah no because these are cooked and not raw. The overall flavour is bay but there is vinegar and onion in the marinade. You can cook them in the oven or on a BBQ. Not sure I have a recipe though.
Red sauce for me on everything, although I do like brown sauce on shepherds pie. I like rollmops, eel and most shellfish, but I have never eaten whelks and I never will! They look like big lumps of gristle!
A girl I use to work with would bring them in sometimes for her supper, she would still be chewing hours later - I'm pretty sure on the same one!
I don't know where I am from really. I was born in Luton but we were not there long. As far as I am aware they have few local delicacies. It was a bit of a dump then. I don't think it has improved much.
