My laptop continues to have wi-fi connection and touchpad freezing problems and needs to be connected to the router via Ethernet cable to work, I thought I'd resolved that but obviously not. I'm using the tablet at the moment and it's connection is fine so it all points to the laptop being the problem and not the router. This morning after only about an hours use the laptop got very hot which combined with the other problems doesn't bode well. In view of the money I've already spent on sorting out it's issues earlier in the year I'm reluctantly considering buying a new one, not happy about it as it's only 18 months old but don't want to throw good money after bad!
Has anyone got any recommendations? I want a reliable laptop that's not too expensive, easy to use with a 14-15" screen, a decent memory (but not huge), Windows 10, definitely not an Acer as I've had 3 now and all of them have had problems. I only use it to surf the internet, a bit of shopping etc and ofcourse chat on here plus store my personal documents & files, any ideas?

FP minor advised me to buy a Lenovo which I did. I needed a laptop witth a CD drive. If you don't need a CD drive it lowers the price considerably. You have to factor in whether you will need a Microsoft Office package and anti - virus stuff. I got those and some thing called One Cloud which I will not be using. It seems more sluggish than my Dell. FP Minor is ramping up the Ram for me this weekend. I got mine from PC World as I wanted home delivery due to current leg situation.
I use Libra for my documents and I've already got anti virus and security which I can transfer over to a new one. I've read good reports of Lenovo and Asus but am confused over the memory on some of them, they've got 32 gb with eMMC whatever that is?

It seems to be a way of storing memory on an internal flash drive the reviews about it aren't very flattering
I actually looked at that laptop on PC Worlds website this morning, at those sort of prices it really isn't cost effective to have mine looked at again. I've already spent in excess of £150 on it I might just as well cut my losses and start again

I have an Asus X550C with a 1TB drive, DVD player/writer, i7 core, 8 MB RAM, USB 3 and a few other bits and bobs. It is also not too heavy and I am very pleased with it I must say. The best laptop I ever had was a DELL - but very expensive and external disc drives which was a real pain - the worst was a Toshiba, a Philips was somewhere in the middle! I need mine to be not very heavy which does restrict me somewhat but this Asus is doing well so far.
I had a look at the laptops in Curry's today they had quite a good selection although not all of them were connected so I wasn't able to try some of them. I daresay if I'd asked they would have sorted it for me but still I was able to try a Levono and an Asus and get a feel for them. I wasn't too keen on the Levono's touchpad it had a rough surface to it and I was concerned it might irritate my fingers if used for any length of time although I expect I'd have gotten used to it. I've been looking on line at an Asus X553SA 4GB 1TB, it looks suitable for what I need it to do and the reviews are OK

As I normally use my laptop whilst sitting in an armchair I find it easier to use the touchpad I only really use a mouse if I'm doing a lot of work then I sit at the dining table

I am hopeless with a touchpad. When I couldn't move around easily after the op I had an Ikea laptop tray stand with one of those beanbag trays underneath so I could use the mouse when I felt the urge to design and make.
