You didn't need to look if an MGB went by, you knew what is was by the sound.
My dream car would be an E Type. When I sold my mini years ago, the buyer arrived with his friend in a E Type. I persuaded him to give me a ride around the block, it was great.
If I ever come into money I will have one built or buy an old one, unless of course my faithful 18 year old Toyota is still serving me well, can't bear to part with it until I have too lol!

That's a good point, Frazz, I used to be able to tell a Mk3 Ford Cortina 1600 from a 2000, and an OHV from an OHC just by the sound. I could also tell an Austin 1100 from a 1300. I was a lonely child.
I'm just popping out for some booze, then I shall attempt to post some pics Mrs M took which she's put on Facebook. If the pics don't work, I'll post some alternatives.
Another of the Mini, with smart Triumph Dolomite Sprint in background.
A Jowett Javelin from the late 40s / early 50s, very desirable in it's day.
Lovely Jag 3.8S-type, plus Austin A40, Riley 4/72, Mini van.
We didn't know what this was, but I couldn't get away from the bloke in the purple trousers all afternoon. He's not me before you ask. Anyway, found out the car is a German Ford Taunus 20M P7.2 XL. Very smart with the wire wheels.
Mini van (again), Taunus, Cortina 1600E, Ford Anglia police car.
Bloke with the purple trousers again, looking at an Austin Cambridge.
Similar to the Austin Cambridge, an immaculate Wolseley 16/60.
Retired to Aidensfield Arms, got ripped off to the tune of four quid a pint. On the bright side, I needed a new beer glass.
