I like going to BBQ's but not keen on doing them myself these days. Got a friend ( a real one!) who does salmon very well, and kebabs. He buys the sausages from a local market trader, they are really delicious.
My next door neighbour is South African and into barbequeing in a big way. As there are no antelope or zebras roaming around here, he cooked a whole sheep on it last year. He was basting it all day with a home recipe sauce, it was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. I'll take a photo of the BBQ if I get invited again, it's a home built one on what looks like a mangle, driven by a motor and chain, just the job.
I like attending BBQ's but not really bothered about doing one, there doesn't seem much point in setting it all up for a couple of burgers or chicken legs. IMO unless you're intending to feed 10+ people it's easier and quicker to cook it indoors and then just eat it outside LOL
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong

Nooo!
It's all part of the fun spending 45 minutes trying to get the thing to light, then another 45 getting it down to a hot glow. Then there's the amusement of a sausage or two slipping through the rack onto the coals, while your beer stands there getting all warm and flat, and the wife complains that her burger isn't cooked and she'll be in the loo all night with food poisoning.....
Actually you're right, it's a pain in the ar*e isn't it?
Then with 10+ people it's unlikely to be a spontanious affair so difficult to take advantage of the lovely weather so there's the logisitics of getting everyone available on the same date and hoping and praying that the weather co-operates, yeah like that's going to happen

As the new bit of my garden will be finished around the summer house soon, I intend to re-instate the New Years Day BBQ, whatever the weather. This is only because my friend (the same one!) made it a tradition for years and is happy to be outside cooking in snow, rain, gales whatever, while the rest of us sit in the warm guzzling some sparkly stuff encouraging him. est70
Although, I suppose that means I'll have do something about getting a BBQ.
