It's The Big night here. A few drinks, then a big meal - Salmon again this year with a fancy French tart (to eat not ... Never mind) with lashings of cream to follow & the cheese board for those who can face it all washed down with wine from Himself's cellar (from under the stairs really). Into the lounge with glasses charged & probably a board game or cards with a film later. About 11 the presents will be dragged out from under the tree, Meg will get her annual warning to behave and not eat the wrapping paper or jump in the boxes. No doubt I will shout, "Leave those baubles alone you little tyke!" 29 will rip everything open in minutes but 23 will take her time and Himself will start on the bowl of nuts. He usually cracks his nuts Christmas Eve. Bedtime will be very late and I'll put stockings (I know!) outside the girl's rooms.

Christmas Day in A&E for you then?
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
Mr Cog ended up at the hospital one year. Silly sod was opening the champers, and instead of pointing the bottle away from him, the cork hit him straight in the eye. Those were the days he didn't wear glasses all the time, or it might've been even worse. Fortunately, there was no lasting damage.
Mr Cog will be taking The Princess out while I go and get my hair done. When I get back we'll have a clean up, then I'm going to prep as much as I can, then we'll relax and wait for the lovebirds to get back from Paris. They're not expected till late evening, so we're just going to have a cold meal tomorrow.
This year it will be spent taking the car to the garage!!
Normally it is spent rushing around like blue ar$ed flies shopping, tidying, sorting, more shopping........ It's going to be even more fun now as we won't be able to start that until the garage have done with the car and we have no car to get to the shops - unless they can actually fix it tomorrow (fat chance). At least Lidl is walking distance - for him!
We keep saying that we should start a Christmas Eve tradition, like a particular meal or a film or something, but we are never ready in time to do anything! We won't start wrapping till around midnight.

Good luck everyone! I will be cooking all day and prepping where I can. It's the washing up as you go along that I hate.House needs a wash and brush . Tablecloth needs ironing. We still have the Christmas stockings too Lena. I won't put the rest of the presents under the tree until tomorrow in case of cat interest. Not sure what time our visitors are arriving or whether they will need feeding. We are having sea bass or Mr Maisie will be as sometimes after a big cook I can't eat.
Hope the car gets sorted EB. Mine is a bit temperamental when its cold so after Christmas it'll go in to get a sensor replaced. Fortunately its quick and not too expensive either. Hope your repair is also quick and not too pricey.
Christmas has not started well here for the friends I spend Christmas Eve with…
His elderly mother lives in the bungalow opposite me and has been terminally ill since the summer. She took a real dive on Monday so things are not looking good. The hospice arranged for when the time came is unable to take her at the moment. She can’t be left, so the decision’s been made to move tonight’s supper to her home and partly to my kitchen. It’s just family and me so I think she will enjoy having everyone there. A wonderful Marie Curie nurse is coming at 10pm to stay overnight with her, which they are going to do each night until she is able to go to the hospice.
It’s very sad but she has had a good life, and a very happy two years here close to her son and daughter-in-law since her husband died.
It was a really lovely enjoyable evening, she was aware everyone was there and had constant attention. The family are going to spend tomorrow there as well.
Two district nurses came to see her while I was there. I've come into contact with the NHS in a variety of ways this year, it may not be perfect but the staff are all priceless in my opinion.
