He used Jorn's own mobile so perhaps he had a contact called 'work' or something similar but I agree about not being able to take a few days off just like that, unless they do things differently in Germany?

Drill man was the press officer & so closely linked with the initial search for Soapy/ Alice & again when she returned. He would have made it his business to know all the investigating officers so I don't think that's so odd. As for few days off, that's not so easy
Darn but there was something else I thought was odd. Oh yes!! Now I thought the twins referred to the but her's wife as a paedophile not her husband. I did play it back and then I wasn't sure. Might be making too much of that.
But there are are few things that still puzzle me & some things I'm guessing
* Did Soapy return because she needed her appendix removed or was there another motive? * And why did she pretend to be Alice? Was it because Sophie is French & presumably has family in France so by pretending to be Alice Webster she could be near Drill Man on the Army base?
* And why did she pin her abduction on Mr Butcher? How was he convicted on just her say so? Was that just to stop speculation or was Drill Man seeking revenge on the Butcher's wife?
* Why did Soapy/ Alice say to Brigadier Stone "What have you done to me?" - or words to that effect? That little chat seems to implicate him in her kidnapping
* Why do I dislike Sam Webster & his ratty son so much?
* Did Soapy return because she needed her appendix removed or was there another motive? I think the appendix was the problem.
* And why did she pretend to be Alice? So she could get her appendix sorted and stay in Germany.
* And why did she pin her abduction on Mr Butcher? because the Drill Sergeant told her to. To get back at his wife
* Why did Soapy/ Alice say to Brigadier Stone "What have you done to me?" - or words to that effect? I don't know if he was involved in the kidnap but clearly he knew who she was.
* Why do I dislike Sam Webster & his ratty son so much? Don't know. I prefer the son. At least his acting out is, to some degree, understandable.
I tell you what puzzles me. If that wasn't Soapy or Alice in the shed, then who was it? And how did "Alice" get out of the locked shed and the other bird get in if Ratty had the key to the padlock?!
I'd already guessed it's Lena in the shed. Gettrick let 'Alice' out and we saw from her first night in the shed her brother left the key in the padlock so it was easy for Gettrick to let her out

I found this new article on DM website written by the writers which gives a few veiled clues will put it in a spolier in case people don't want to know
{Spoiler}Surely Gettrick would have noticed that he had no money for the toy before he got to the shop? I don't know how far Eckhausen is supposed to be from the cabin in Switzerland but it's unlikely he wouldn't have had to buy petrol or refreshments etc en route? Obviously this was written in so he'd have to pay for the monkey by credit card and will ultimately lead Baptiste to them but sorry for me it's not really credible
Also there were no longer any locks on the bedroom door so if he'd taken the time to remove them why would he relock the basement room after he'd removed 'Alice', is there someone else still down there?
