Thought the ending was quite abrupt - would have liked another episode to see how the characters moved on and how the police wound up the matter ...
That would have been a too happy ending. The point was their lives had changed forever when they were children and there never would be a happy ending.
I interpreted it as going no further. Case wound up because of insufficient evidence. Cassie had already been told by her superior that a lot of time & effort had been devoted to a 40 year old case & they should be focusing on what was happening now, present day. That stance made it easier for Cass to drop the investigation. Cassie had said earlier that they had to prove the victims knew each other and the only one person who could prove it turned out to be Cassie herself. I think the writing was on the wall when she followed one of them to the pub and did not tell her partner where she was going. In fact, she lied to him. She was the sole witness to the meeting and she decided she's was saying nothing. Morally, I felt it was the right decision- for the victims. The two silent women who knew & did nothing were outed & finished so they got their just rewards.
I hope FP doesn't read this before she watches the finale.
DON'T LOOK FP!!
I agree with your interpretation of the events but it looked to me as if at least one of The Three might do something drastic in order to avoid what they assumed would be the consequences iykwim. That's why I felt it was an inconclusive ending. Was it too late for one or all of them?
The scene with Colin and Cassie in the pub was very moving and harrowing.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
I think the scene you mention of Colin & Cassie in the pub summed it up. Like the others, he was a beaten into the ground. They thought their actions would bring closure but what they did had eaten away at them, it had destroyed them & the relationships they had with those they loved. The only one who came out alive so to speak was the dead man's son. It thought it was beautifully handled.
The scene with Colin & Cassie together in the pub was incredibly powerful. So much so that I keep thinking about it. Horrific subject matter handled very well I thought. I actually think I enjoyed this series more than the first, and I loved that as well. Fingers crossed for a third run. Nicola Walker is outstanding in everything isn't she?
I finished watching it last night and thought it was excellent.
The chap telling her that pursuing historical cases meant less money for dealing with current day gave the perfect opportunity for not taking it further. Whether it would be that easy in real life, maybe not?
I realise I'm like a dog with a bone over this but didn't anyone else think that one/all of The Three (especially Colin as he appeared to have the most to lose) was/were at risk of suicide before finding out that they weren't to be prosecuted?
That is one loose end I would have liked tied up.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
