It's been a while since we did one of these, and this is an era I'm not particularly familiar what with me being a youngster. However in a bid to please the less young people here, I've had a go at compiling a list of 60s tunes that are perhaps not quite as well known as the usual nonsense, ie. you'll find no Beatles or Beach Boys here.
As usual I'll post my choices via Youtube links, and if anyone is unfamiliar with a song they can find it at the same place. Apart from the one by Can which the blighters have had removed.
I hope you'll enjoy some alternative 60's, I've actually learnt a bit from researching these. You can therefore pick up to seven as I'm struggling to choose less myself.
Here's mine, minus the Can song.....
If I had to pick just one of those it would probably be the Beefheart one. I usually struggle with Beefheart, but that one is excellent. I was also chuffed to find an early Bob Marley track produced by Lee Scratch Perry.
These are my favourites of the ones I am familiar with and later I will listen to the others so my choices may change, but for now here is a spiffing clip from Floyd. The song I believe is about a transvestite
I'm wondering what constitutes "alternative" because some of those tunes were constantly on the radio ie Riders on the Storm, Voodoo Chile, Debora, Telstar, All Day and All of the Night - even Arnold Layne which was fab!
I had quite a sizeable record collection before we, as a family, had the equipment to play them on so I used to carry them about in one of those cute little cases to friends' houses and fire up their Dansette record players LOL
