Oh that's lovely Cog. At least you were in with a shout!
I went to visit the garnet ring and it is lovely. Very similar to my smoky Quartz ring so I know I will love it. Superb colour, lovely sparkly diamonds but it is in white gold. So I'm mulling.
He had a flipping stunning hot pink sapphire and a lovely pink tourmaline too. I just need to be sensible and not do my usual kiddy in a sweet shop approach.
The annoying thing is, he was about to drop the hammer, and I had the winning bid, then someone else came in, so the bids were pushed up to my limit, he told the other bidder commission bids were out, so they pipped me by £200! It was a 3.5 ct Princess
I have garnets in white metal and they look good, but if you're not a white metal girl, don't buy it.
That's such a shame @incognito, that was a beautiful ring and the cut with all those facets looked lovely. I don't suppose Princess cuts of that size come along very often. Just hope you have better luck next time.
Thanks @sacha, I'm a great believer in fate, it wasn't meant to be, and you're right, it's the first time I've found anything like that. If I'd got it, it'd have been the bargain of the century, but at least the seller got more for it, I'd have been heartbroken if I'd had to part with it.

Bugga Cog. 200 squidlidoos!!
I do like white metals. Very much so. I just need to think on. I've seen another garnet ring in yellow gold that I like. But it doesn't have a diamond surround. That's a stonker though and I think I'd prefer a smaller central stone AND a diamond surround. I think this one is going to be easier than the SQ though.
