I've generally been quite lucky with deliveries, I just wish they had time to wait for you to answer the door. I mean i'm sitting there and can see when they're walking up the drive, so leap up and run to the door but they never wait for you to answer, just drop behind a wheely bin and run. Not complaining really because they're so poorly paid and up against the clock that they really have to rush.
They do have to work to a ridiculous timetable thats for sure, I wouldn't fancy it
Theres a lot of doubling up now as well, at one time you could guarantee who would be bringing what. Its a bit of a mash mash at the moment but I suppose thats the only way they can guarantee to get stuff out quickly enough

I got some stuff from ASOS delivered by DPD yesterday - my lovely delivery man asked if I had the free delivery ( which I do) and if I did please was there anything I could order next Saturday to arrive on Christmas Eve as he will get paid the equivalent of two weeks wages for working Christmas Eve if he gets a certain number of parcels to deliver. As he is excellent at his job and reliable I will certainly see what I can order.
On Friday Mr EB ordered some packaging stuff that he needed, Prime delivery coming Saturday - with Hermes. Showed as 'out for delivery' supposedly by 8pm. Didn't arrive. Tracking then said along the lines of 'sorry there has been an unavoidable delay, expected delivery 21st-23rd'! Cue much swearing. Didn't come Sunday or Monday but then this morning it was 'out for delivery' again. Guess what? Yep, no friggin' parcel.
The problem is that he needs it for an eBay order and has nothing else that he can use. The order (actually several together and reasonable value) was placed on Thursday so he will get bucket loads of demerits from eBay and possible negative feedback from the buyer because of sodding Hermes. They are totally incompetent.
I ordered a cooking pot from U.K. and was told that it was being delivered by Hermes. A few days later, I received an email telling me that my pot had been delivered, had been signed for and was "within my household" (bit archaic that).I was annoyed because I had been in all day and 'signed for' should mean just that. I ran up to the bicycle shop and they assured me it hadn't been left there, as parcels often are. After a lot of faffing about, and unanswered emails, I went onto Hermes live chat. A very patronising and bored-sounding individual said 'we only deliver within the U.K.'
Me...'so where is it? It says it has been signed-for and delivered'
Him (audibly sighing)..."that means,of course , that it has been received into our London warehouse"
Me...'so where is it now?'
Him..'It has been passed to some courier in your country'
He didn't know (or bloody care), which courier! A few days later, I was contacted by UPS who then delivered it! Hermes wanted to know how happy I was with their live chat so I gave them both barrels and received the standard apology.Feckin, parcel delivering shysters!
P.S. It was ordered through ebay and the company that I bought from were lovely and offered to send me a replacement using another courier. They were really annoyed with the whole thing and told me they would 'have words'.
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

Well that is something at least after the disgrace of Hermes cassandra. The whole parcel delivery thing is so hit and miss. The nasty Amazon Driver of a couple of months ago seems to have disppeared and been replaced with nice staff here. Such a change.
I had a similar situation a while ago with an Ebay delivery coming from America, like Cass I had the email saying it had been delivered at 0810 am, I was in and no one rang or knocked. I checked all around the outside, asked the neighbours and even went down to the flat at the end of my road that has the same postcode as me and no sign of it, I contacted the courier who informed me it had been handed over to the UK Postal Service! I guess that as it's left their care their system says it's been delivered, it turned up a few days later but they need to add another option to their emails saying 'handed over to local delivery service'
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
I have two Hermes peeps and they're both brilliant. They never deliver for Amazon though. They're different drivers. Nice enough but they just want to drop the parcel and run. My home postman, Jamie, is lovely and my office postman, Alex, is too.
One of my Hermes driver's worked out when someone muddled my work and office address that it was me and delivered it to home. He has also done late deliveries when he knows it's chocolate. I often get parcels from Thorntons or similar for my birthday or Christmas and he comes back after 6 because he knows I'll either be in or I won't be long.
Yes, I find the individuals in their cars and vans are the most reliable. Apart from jewellery, QVC stuff mostly came by car, don't know if that is still the case.
