They were strange books but I can remember reading them vividly. I remember reading the Barbara Euphan Todd Worzel Gummage books too- I caught Mumps and had to stay at home when I was about nine at Christmas when the rest of the family went to the panto- the book was my consolation gift. One of the most exciting books I read as a child was 'The Silver Sword' which was turned into a BBC serial and who could not love ' The Eagle Of the Ninth' by Rosemary Sutcliffe which gave me my passion for history.
I can remember reading everything by Enid Blyton, all the Paddington Bear books and all The Borrowers books but there must have been more because I was always up at the library.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
I've always loved books and libraries and am very disappointed by the libraries in this town. Economic cuts have closed four since we've lived here and the main one has been commandeered by the university - well, they call it a university but it's more like a Sixth Form College - and there are only a couple of shelves of books for non students to borrow.

Me too. Started with Noddy & Brer Rabbit and then it was The Secret Seven & The Famous Five. I've still got my full set of the latter in the attic. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enid_Blyton_bibliography I never read The Momins, but The Silver Sword was the first book we read in High School followed by The Eagle of the Ninth.

I remember reading the Moomins and I bought the books for my son. We still have a library here but in the neighbouring town it's long gone. It's s Cafe Rouge now.
We always got a book token as a end of year prize giving at primary school. Everyone got one though. Used to love my trips to the book shop to spend my token. No idea where they got the money from now I think about it.
Must have done well FP because every child got a book token every year. Never really thought about it before now. It was a small rural primary school but even so. Obviously well funded from the community. The school is still going. Might find out if they still do anything similar and see if I can send in a donation.
