I bought and paid for an item on ebay, after which the seller messaged me to apologise, he said he'd moved the day before and was unable to locate it and believed it to be lost, he contacted ebay and they advised him to cancel the order which he's done.
I've not had an order cancelled before so don'tknow the time lines etc
The order now shows in the refund and cancelled order section with a message saying 'The seller has cancelled this order - just confirm you've recieved a refund' and status 'The cancellation is pending'
The order shows as cancelled with 'The seller cancelled your order and sent you a refund. We'll send you a confirmation email soon'
That was 5 days ago the refund hasn't appeared in my Paypal account and I haven't had the email from ebay, I don't want to chase up ebay if this is this normal, does anyone know how long a refund usually takes when an order's been cancelled?

When I've had a problem with an order for whatever reason the refund has been made within a couple of days, I know the funds actually have been debited and not pending from your card and Paypal before the refund can be made but I checked and both showed he'd been paid before he cancelled the order.

Yes ebay are good so I know I'll get it back eventually, I just didn't want to whinge too early if it's normal for a cancelled order to take this long. I haven't actually had an email from ebay just a message from the seller and the fact my purchase details have been moved to 'cancelled orders and refund' section of my account

I've just messaged him via ebay asking him to confirm he has authorised/sent the refund before I contact ebay, will await his response.
I'm sure he's genuine he had 100% feedback and a score of 208, a lot of which were sales. When I logged in there were four messages from him, the first 3 asking for my Paypal account details which I was a bit concerned about and didn't respond to but the 4th was the one where ebay told him to cancel the order which he obviously did

The seller has just messaged me saying he's spoken to ebay this morning and apparently it takes 10 days to process a cancelled order refund so it could be 17th before I get it, well they say patience is a virtue!

I'd like to know who these "they" are because they get on my nerves. My mother-in-law knew a lot of "they" people & what they said. Anyway, at least you know your refund is being dealt with Diamond Diva
May be it's the first time he has had to do a refund, but it sounds a bit odd.
I've done a few refunds over the years where things haven't arrived etc. You just go to your Paypal account and it's basically automatic. It leaves the account immediately, so I'm guessing it's PayPal that holds onto it for whatever reason?
