Unless we learn anything to the contrary, it's probably safer to assume that suggestion is based on jealousy.
My 40th birthday cake and our 25th wedding anniversary cake were both made by very gifted amateurs who didn't become professional bakers - it's what people do when they love their hobby.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
His capabilities are obviously far and away above the others so not a level playing field as such
However if he is still an amateur then he is obviously allowed to enter. Not going to be much of a competition though if one person so much more advanced than the rest
In previous series, there have always been one or two who have had some training, been on bakery courses etc. Some have pretended otherwise until found out. As Frazz says, it's the same with Strictly and similar shows. He is a talented cake maker, his bread might be sh*te. I think what makes his talent more obvious is that the others all seem a little less talented this year - no bad thing, in my opinion.
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
There seems to be a trend towards discouraging competition in people - school sports days never have winners or losers any more because children aren't allowed to get demoralised.
That's utter bollox and not what life is about. There will always be someone who is better than you at most things so why not prepare for that at an early age and not be shielded from reality.
Perhaps the other Bake Off contestants will make more of an effort to up their game in view of Steven's cake making prowess and Cass is absolutely right, he could be shite at bread LOL
I haven't read anything about him in the papers. I thought he was pretty good but he's hardly a professional. I think what he can do that many can't is do the decorating as well as bake. And why would you enter if you didn't think you could do a half decent job of it.
I can make and decorate cakes to a pretty good standard but I can't make pastry to save my bloody life.
I am really good with pastry (she says modestly) but my cakes are just o.k.ish and I always struggle to get my biscuits thin enough. I havn't made bread since the 'kids' left home as we don't eat it but I usually only made plain wholemeal loaves, nothing fancy.

I know, I liked her enormously, but I think it was fair. I don't know why they place so much emphasis on her age, she is only 5 months older than me and people seem to be marvelling at the fact that she can still walk and talk! After all, Pru is 77, Mary is 82...

Although I watched it when it was on the BBC, I wasn't going to watch this series (shock, horror!) but did watch it last night and it's now set to record the series. The idea of Noel presenting was putting me off, because I remember The Mighty Boosch, but I was pleasantly surprised. 😀
And being able to fast forward through the adverts is a definite . 👍
