Feature walls ... yes or no? Trendy or old hat? Have you got one? Is it one wall papered and the rest not or one wall painted a different colour. And be quick with your answers. I've got to decide today lol.
I'm not a fan of all four walls the same. Feels like a box. I've got two walls & a recess painted dark blue and the rest stone. It is a large room, facing south so it can take the dark blue.
I do like any recesses painted a different colour I must say. I just don't have any.
I want to keep the room quite light and airy and I have found a paper that has some silver highlights in it but it's quite subtle. This is the paper. The room shot makes it look really busy. I'm not sure why because the pattern is more spaced out than that in reality.
I think the featured wall is still in vogue. In the 70's we used darker paint in the chimney recesses or a different coloured paint or wallpapered the chimney breast to make a feature, we moved away from it in the late 80's and 90's and it's come back again, so each generation has done their own version of it but IMO it adds interest to a room
My kitchen and dining room are two separate rooms but there's no wall between them so they 'flow' into each other, both rooms are painted in the same colours with three walls the same and a painted feature one that ties them together.
My bedroom has 'timeless' painted on three walls and a feature papered wall behind the headboard, the background's the same colour as the painted walls with silver leaves and just a little touch of glitter on it, I love it but it would be far too much if it was on all the walls
I'm no help here because, after 30 years of Victorian and Edwardian fancy plasterwork and nooks and crannies accentuated with colour, I'm now in a "mid-century", minimalist white phase.
I have no wallpaper here and no feature walls, apart from in two of the bedrooms although they're quite subtle, despite being in a darker shade of the main colour of the rooms, when you walk in. In the master bedroom, I've got fitted wardrobes with cupboards over the top and the bed fits into the recess. The recess is the feature part but is surrounded by the white wardrobes/cupboards so isn't "in your face."
In the second bedroom the end wall is the feature one and that's where the window is and so it's broken up by that and the curtains.
And if you can follow those descriptions then "you're a better man than I."
We have two walls papered one colour (a sort of chocolate brown with gold and cream vertical pattern) and the other two walls papered in a light cream colour virtually plain. Mrs M insisted on (me) papering the lot. It's about due to be redone, I might strip the bloody lot and paint it magnolia.

Then the other walls would be a soft blue grey with cream woodwork. I'm allergic to white woodwork.
They have some nice wallpaper in Homebase and I especially like the ones with a subtle touch of silver sparkle. We redecorated two bedrooms the other year choosing a lightly patterned silver and white paper for three walls and as a feature, coordinating big patterned paper on the fourth wall.
So I would endorse what you have detailed above Tinks, that patterned paper would look good on one feature wall.
I will never have wallpaper in a house again. I don't like it.
The spare bedroom and the den both have a 'feature' wall which is painted darker than the other walls. They are both well overdue to be decorated and I will (get OH) paint all walls the same colour. No more feature walls.
Tastes change over time - I just want light neutral colours on the walls now.
I don't have a room that has four walls. The bedrooms are fitted and the lounge is a rectangle with internal glass panels and doors at the hall end and full length curtains the other end which divides it from the dining area. One long side has a large window and the other is two thirds wall and one third recess. I haven't a clue on what to do with it next year, other than I will probably stick with ivory as the main colour. It desperately needs modernising, but I'm having problems finding things I like within my budget.
