Has anyone changed the way they are cooking because of restricted availability of ingredients?
I have to confess to not having cooked from scratch for a long time - veg peeling is tricky with hands that won't uncurl - but I found some oxtail lurking at the back of the freezer on Friday so, yesterday I stuck it in the slow cooker with diced chorizo (I have no recollection of buying that as I usually hate it!), carrots, onions, tinned toms, tomato puree and stock and, although contrary to expectations, it wasn't cooked in time for dinner yesterday, I put it in the oven for a further three hours today and it was OK. I prepared enough mash and cabbage to make Bubble and Squeak tomorrow too and Mr Nell has another portion of the oxtail for another day.
I used to make it regularly in the winter prior to the BSE crisis - and we thought that was tricky! - but for many years you couldn't get meat on the bone so I stopped. I'd forgotten just how much cooking it needs.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
LOL! Feeling the need for comfort food, I am about to make a batch of cheese scones. I will have to severely ration them to myself as the flour is not kind to me but Sam will be pleased when he comes home.
I have asked him, while he is out in Pireaus, where there are a lot of ethnic shops, being a port, to try and buy some more gram flour as I am nearly out of it and onion bhajis are another comfort food we can both enjoy. He has to send a free SMS to authorities identifying himself and telling them which shop he is going to...his work schedule is printed out in case he is stopped.
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
Not had any problems getting fresh food and veg. I don't bake, but my friend does and is having problems finding bread flour. I've added it to my delivery orders for her to help, no guarantee obviously.
Sam didn't have a problem getting the Gram flour. All other kinds, are available in abundance in the supermarkets but Gram flour comes from ethnic stores here. The cheese scones are delicious.
