As many know I have no time for the Royals whatsoever
I do concede that they bring cash into the country by dragging in the tourists so usually let major royal events slip by whilst only making limited comments
That aside I dont consider this particular royal major and agree that we should not be footing this gigantic bill for security, a more low key affair would have been more appropriate considering the shit state of this countries finances at the moment
The gap between the have and the have nots is getting wider by the day and is a disgrace in this day and age, people are having to go cap in hand to food banks whilst these pampered few are living it up and rubbing peoples noses in it
Makes me sick (and probably quite unpopular I imagine)
Even a low-key affair would have generated a massive security bill. The cost of security is always hotly debated, whether it be for weddings, funerals, football matches, protests, parliament... Nothing is going to stop crowds turning out for these events and they have to be protected. Mamafrankie's link would not open for me but as far as I know, all other expenses were covered by the Royals?
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
If they had any thought for the people who are living in poverty they would have had a low key wedding without all the hangers on and expense. It was turned into a circus and celebrity fest and if it sickens me I can only imagine how it would leave someone who hasn't got a pot to piss in feeling
This is an interesting article from earlier this year.
It addresses some of the questions regarding Royal cost and revenue generated and points out that its not necessarily the case that they are cost effective (as a lot of Royalists would have us believe)
If we must have them lets only pay for the Sovereign and immediate family and cut the rest of them loose
