I'm steering clear of the shops today because, from the traffic reports on the local radio this morning, the world and his wife are heading for the sales,
Instead, I'm going to clear out a cupboard upstairs and re-organise my stash of Molton Brown, and other bits and bobs, and bin the things that I've kept "just in case" but never used. I certainly know how to inject excitement into my life.
I'm also wrapping up Him Ooop North's presents for his birthday next Sunday, writing to my cousin (the daughter of my uncle who remembered me so generously in his will last week) and I might even flick a duster around before vegging out to watch some DVDs I got for Christmas.
I hope that anyone who celebrated the New Year with a tipple or two (or three) isn't feeling too fragile this morning.
In case anyone is nursing a bad head ......... I'll whisper 😉
Play the game Millie! Out of order you little stop-out!
I'm still home, not got to Dunelm yet. I'm waiting for the 8 maids a-milking to turn up. So far I've only kept the pear tree (the partridge got the push) and the 5 gold rings.
Birthday presents wrapped, cupboard sorted and unwanted items binned, loads of cardboard boxes in recycling bin and I'm glad that's done and dusted. Just the letter to write but I'm going to do that later as I need to word it carefully/thoughtfully as it's acknowledging what her dad left me and I know his loss is still 'raw' especially as she also lost her mum a few months earlier.
So ..... I'm now wondering what to get for lunch and then which DVD to veg out to. It'll be lovely to just chill though as I have one heck of a week coming up next week. 😳
Has anyone else ever wondered why we have New Year when we do, or is it just me?
I was contemplating that very subject at 00:56 this morning, while yet another bunch of pillocks, probably those who were too pissed and missed midnight, were letting off their fireworks.
"Wouldn't it make far more sense to have New Year at a time that could be easily determined? For example, when the Earth is at perihelion (its closest approach to the sun), or aphelion (its furthest point from the sun) are both easy to determine", I mused aloud. "Urghh", my wife replied, though she might have simply been snoring.
This morning I decided to do a bit of research. It seems a bit odd, but at perihelion, it's actually winter in the Northern hemisphere. That does explain why summers in Australia are always hotter than here in the UK, though, so I have at least learnt something.
This year the Earth will be at its closest to the sun on January 3rd. Over the following four years it will occur on 5th, 2nd, 4th and 4th respectively, so it might make it a bit awkward for people printing calendars and diaries.
My research leads me to the following conclusions:-
1. It's a bloody sight simpler to just leave things as they are. 2. I need to get a life. 3. I really, really do need to get a life.

The Christmas Paper I used for making a Christmas Journal as a secret santa was the 12 Days of Christmas from Graphic 45.
