My plan is to get outside today to clear some weeds and move a pile of patio slabs. The lawns back & front had their first haircut of the season last week, but then rain stopped play.

I have only just come across Y’s post of May last year. This might be helpful. A gerund can be used as a noun. So in ‘stopped shating ‘ is the’ shating ‘a noun? Whatever, I would double the t before adding ing to make ‘shatting’. My googling reveals it should probably be ‘shitting’. I had to look up ‘Preterite’ - The preterite or preterit (/ˈprɛtərɪt/ PRET-ər-it; abbreviated PRET or PRT) is a grammatical tense or verb form serving to denote events that took place or were completed in the past; in some languages, such as Spanish, French, and English, it is equivalent to the simple past tense.
Present I shit you shit he shits we shit you shit they shit Present continuous I am shitting you are shitting he is shitting we are shitting you are shitting they are shitting Preterite I shit, shat you shit, shat he shit, shat we shit, shat you shit, shat they shit, shat Preterite continuous I was shitting you were shitting he was shitting we were shitting you were shitting they were shitting Present perfect I have shit, shat you have shit, shat he has shit, shat we have shit, shat you have shit, shat they have shit, shat Present perfect continuous I have been shitting you have been shitting he has been shitting we have been shitting you have been shitting they have been shitting Pluperfect I had shit, shat you had shit, shat he had shit, shat we had shit, shat you had shit, shat they had shit, shat Pluperfect continuous I had been shitting you had been shitting he had been shitting we had been shitting you had been shitting they had been shitting Future I will shit you will shit he will shit we will shit you will shit they will shit Future continuous I will be shitting you will be shitting he will be shitting we will be shitting you will be shitting they will be shitting Future perfect I will have shit, shat you will have shit, shat he will have shit, shat we will have shit, shat you will have shit, shat they will have shit, shat Future perfect continuous I will have been shitting you will have been shitting he will have been shitting we will have been shitting you will have been shitting they will have been shitting Conditional Present I would shit you would shit he would shit we would shit you would shit they would shit Present continuous I would be shitting you would be shitting he would be shitting we would be shitting you would be shitting they would be shitting Past I would have shit, shat you would have shit, shat he would have shit, shat we would have shit, shat you would have shit, shat they would have shit, shat Past continuous I would have been shitting you would have been shitting he would have been shitting we would have been shitting you would have been shitting they would have been shitting
I hope that cat is still refraining from shitting on Y’s artificial grass.
That made my head hurt Berry McPaper-cuts and brought back hours of fun learning French grammar - not that I recall dwelling on that particular verb too often. 😁
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.

Being a life long learner is good for you Frazz, and possibly if you can’t get to sleep , declining the verb would be an alternative to counting sheep. It could also be deployed when dealing with the wokerati as in ,“I can’t use your correct pronouns dearie but I can decline the verb to shit."
We've been threatening to paint 32's bedroom for some time and while I was out Himself loaded the paint roller. When I returned he was clearing up the spilt paint on the carpet.
