Former Scottish first minister Alex Salmond arrived at court today to appear on a series of sexual assault and attempted rape charges. The preliminary hearing will take place at the High Court in Edinburgh this morning. Mr Salmond faced a total of 14 charges, including two counts of attempted rape, when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on January 24. He has previously denied the allegations and said he will defend himself 'to the utmost' in court. The 64-year-old was Scotland's first minister from 2007 to 2014.
"Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority; still more when you superadd the tendency of the certainty of corruption by authority.” Lord Acton (1834-1902)
The point the first witness made about his “charms” seemed to clinch it for me but we will see whether the casting couch approach of movie moguls and mega rich business moguls is valid for pontificating Scottish politicians too.
