I think the writing was on the wall & to be honest, I don't blame them & good luck to them. Harry is extremely unlikely to ever become King (the whole troop before him would have to be wiped out) and she was always going to be a target. I think we had a hint as to their intention when a formal photograph appeared showing the Queen, Charles, William, George and Louis - the line of succession.
The idea the picture of the heirs to throne was the final straw, as usual based on what an insider surmised to the press is just ridiculous. Pictures of the heirs on their own have always appeared now and again, and I would be pretty sure Harry is glad he is not amongst them. Likewise the Queen & family being shocked and upset, maybe they were about this sudden announcement, but the suggestion they were "unaware" and nothing had been discussed within is equally ridiculous.
They are doing the right thing for themselves, good luck to them. The press will be high-fiving themselves, and no doubt continue to do all in their power to see they don't succeed.
Yes I've just seen that too, they've got a bloody nerve, £2.4m that cost us to do up and now they're stepping down but still expecting some of the royal benefits. The Palace said something about them "needing a place to live in the UK", well given their bank balances they could damn well buy a place outright without having to rely on handouts.
I'm dissatisfied with my life, all this getting up for work every day makes me unhappy. I think we'll upsticks and bugger off to Canada, but we'll keep this place too for when we fancy a visit - oh hang on...
Charles has made it very clear he intends to have a much slimmed down monarchy when he becomes King which they say Andrew is unhappy about and has been kicking up a fuss re secured roles for his daughters. With William and his three children there's an assured line of succession and even though Harry is his son it's probable that the Sussex's wouldn't have been included in the Public Purse during his reign so I think they're just pre-empting that
